I ran into this complete disaster when my now 5 yr. old daughter caught it from another kid @ daycare when she was 2...Her dr. called in some shampoo that u leave n their hair overnight (8 hours) and wash it out like reg. shampoo after the times up...It killed EVERYTHING and I havent had a problem since so instead of picking the nits out, u might want to talk with ur pediatrician and c if he/she can call u some meds to the pharmacy to help so u'll b able to comb thru their hair instead of having to pick at it...Good luck

I have over 20yrs dealing with head lice in other's hair and do the checks at my kids schools. Recently I've gone through this in our own home with my daughter getting it one weekend at her dad's.

With very young kids I recommend mixing an ounce of white vinegar and cooking oil and really working that into the hair. put a shower cap on for at least an hour ( over night is even better). Wash it out with dish detergent and then comb through with a nit comb to pull out any dead/sluggish lice. Then its a matter of pulling out nits. If the kids are too young or too wiggly to sit and watch a movie while you do it, then i suggest wait until they are good and asleep, bring in a good goose neck lamp and start picking while they sleep. I have done this with several foster children who have arrived with lice and its the safest and least invasive method.

Good luck and remember to wash all clothing, coats, sheets, blankets, pillows etc. I strongly suggest you buy the furniture spray and spray the mattress and couches and chairs in the morning before the kids head out for the day. Vaccumm them before the kids return and you should have it cleared up. check every few days for the next 2 weeks.

Good luck!

Thanks Melinda - lol I read this too late! OOPS! So far so good - she said she's okay! I used Diluted vinegar, and a whack of conditioner and she is currently sitting with a bag over her hair for an hourish (less if it starts to burn) We'll see how it goes.
Yes, Tea Tree oil is on our list to buy! I hear it's a great preventative method :)

Thanks Kimberly - I will definately give it a go! I read that Vinegar is suppose to help loosen the nits - so I will try that this morning, and see what will happen :P
