My 13 year old daughter wants a Flip video camcorder for Christmas. My husband is nervous that she'll use it inappropriately. In other words, why enable her? Other friends tell me if she wanted to use it inappropriately, she could use the video feature on her cell phone or her digital camera, so why is the camcorder different? I'd love other opinions on the subject.

it is up to both of you. I think if he will be mad about it I wouldnt push the issue. I agree with friends. She already has the means. Maybe you should bring up those points with him.

I'm not sure if it's a bad thing but your husband has voiced his concerns. I think you need to respect his concerns. Together you can discuss the pros and con and decide together - without your daughter's input or knowledge - if it's something you want to do. It's important to stand as a united front.

I think it'd be okay. When my brother was 13, him and his friends constantly used my mom's video camera to make various movies or pretend tv shows. They spent hours doing this and never once was it inappropriately used. Now, we watch these videos and laugh hysterically at how goofy he was. It was a way for his creative juices to flow...
