Can anyone give advice on how to help my nine year old daughter sleep thru the night.

Ask her if something is bothering her. Nine is kind of old for waking up at night and not being able to put herself back to sleep. If she is having nightmares, maybe talking through what is bothering her will help. If she has become scared of the dark, try giving her a flashlight to make her feel more secure when she wakes in the middle of the night. At nine, unless she is feeling sick, she should be able to soothe herself back to sleep. Hope this helps and that your house goes back to having restful nights!

My 5 year old has episodes of this as well. She will wake up at all hours and not go back to bed. We have done a few things (some successful and others not) that have helped. 1. When it first starts we put her in a class or do some family exercise about 2 hours before bed (a walk a trip to the pool, a bike ride) 2. We give her a book and a timer. When she wakes up she can read for a set amount of time and then has to try to go back to sleep. 3. At one point we put a small t.v. in her room and bought an aquarium fish DVD that had waves/bubbles that would play. She would watch it when she woke up. 4. We established a bed time routine that helped her relax before going to bed (story time, a 5-10 min. massage, bath etc. At times some of them help and some times they don't. I hope that you can find something that will work for you. Good luck! :-)
