i am not sure what the issue is? is it that they are eating things that aren't healthy? or is it that you expect them to ask whenever they want something to eat?

if it is that they are eating non-healthy food, then all you have to do is not have unhealthy food in the house except in quantities that you decide they may have when you decide they may have it.

if it is an issue that you expect them to ask whenever they want something to eat, that is a bit extreme, IMO ... my 6 yr old gets her own snacks, makes her own sandwiches, and even makes me tea sometimes when she comes home in the afternoon. my only issue with it is the trail of mess she leaves behind LOL!
