my first experience with the school district in lewistown, il has not gone well. i sent my son on the bus the first day and after school when i went to pick him up no calvin. they sent him on the wrong bus to two towns away. my five year old!!!! it took me an hour and a half to get him back from the time he got out of school. i called the police because they said he wasnt on any of the buses. apparently they didnt check very well. he was on the wrong bus scared and slumped down in a seat all by himself. I know he was scared because when i got him back all he did was cling to me. I am so pissed off. I want to shake someone stupid. I hope my experiences get better because right now i hate this school.

That happened to my son last year. They have a different bus drivers for pickup and drop off. He got on the bus with the morning driver. The afternoon driver got on the radio and they found him real quick. It didn't happen after that.

Also, I have his name, address and phone number perm. marked on his backpack. Just in case it happens again.

That is one of the worst nightmares for any parent, i'm glad your son was found.
at my girls' school the kindergartners have color coded tags with their name address and bus route they are put on their backpacks on the first day of school. plus the teachers put the kids on the buses one a a time to make sure they get to the right spot. the bus routes also have names like turtle and duck so the kids can easily tell they are on the correct bus.
one or all of these suggestions may help your school implement a safer environment for the bus kids.
hope things go much better

oh im really sorry to hear this. my 5 year old starts school on monday for the first time. i am very proud of her school though this year they started a new program where the children have id cards they wear on the neck with there picture and name and on the back there address, the rope necklace is color coded for each bus route. this is to prevent kids from 1. getting on the wrong bus to begin with and 2 making sure they are let off at the right stop.

OMG! I am actually glad now that my son will not get bused. He is to close to the school so he is a "walker". Good luck & God Bless!

that's really annoying. I hope your child recovers...you too. I would have been very upset if that happened. Right now, I will be driving my son to school since there aren't buses from where we live.

I never considered putting my children on a bus as a kindergarten student. They are simply too young, especially at the beginning of the school year...after the first 6 weeks or so, when they have gained their confidence I could see allowing them to ride the bus. I love the idea of a older student buddy. Our school had name tags complete with bus route # and the childs address and phone # that they wore on a lanyard to help get them in the right place, but that has its problems too. Every bus in every school should have at least 1 adult other than the driver with a checklist of names to be sure that all are present and also to keep order on the bus. I was displeased with our school on so many levels that I made the decision to homeschool...it's not for everyone, but it has proven to be a wonderful thing for our family. I wish you the best of luck! Be sure and talk to the school, the bus driver, the teacher.

our school actually has helpers that put each kindergarten and 1st grade child on the bus. they just put him on the wrong one. and then had no idea where he was.

omg....I would have been scared to death myself as the mother. Did he get on the bus today? I know kids bounce back fast but they had to be a bit traumatic for him. Try to keep in mind that everyone is human and we all make mistakes....but at the same time. When we give our children (especially the young ones....new to school) over to the school system and bus drivers....we expect them to take GREAT care of them. I would definately follow up with the superintedent about it, to make sure this never happens again to your child or any other. just an fyi---at my children's school the kindergarteners are assigned a 5th grade buddy that rides their bus. The 5th grader pickets them up from class and drops them off....they see them from the bus to their classroom at morning & afternoon. Might be a suggestion when you talk to someone....this should prevent this from happening again.....gives you some peace of mind and actually forms a bond with an older children in the school system and then also kinds keeps an eye out for their "buddy".
