My son has been in school for 4 yrs now & this year I was happy, they have a therapy dog & he is talking! He has selective mutism so talking is huge for him! It didn't take long for Harley to start complaing. She's mean, eveil, I thought he just didn't like school because he has a high IQ he gets bored. After she approached me about his behavior during a bathroom break, a 5th grader was picking on my 2nd grader & she was telling me my son reacted wrong?? And the 5th grader, what happens to him? The n I take cupcakes to school and 1 kid who had been in trouble forntalking

He was but then he started talking in school so they think he's fine. They didn't know he has anxiety and chewed on his clothes until I told them & then they gripped at him for that. I buy his clothes & I told them not to complain about it because its anxiety.

I would address this with the administration. Ask for another evaluation for IEP. Intelligence is not supposed to be a factor in an IEP, but if they don't want that, then tell them you want a comprehensive learning plan in place for your son. I can't recall (been a few years since that age) if it's a 504, or something else. However...if your son has developmental issues, and I'd think selective mutism would fall into that, he should be eligible for an IEP. Talk to both the superintendent's office, as well as your district's special programs coordinator.

Also, try to volunteer in the school more. You'll get a better idea of what exactly is happening, and be able to document things better.

They took him off the iep because he is to smart. Smart doesn't mean he has no issues! He gets done b4 the other kids & helps them. But he has anxiety disorder, selective mutism, ocd & autistic characteristics. But since his iq is high he dont need help???

Have you spoken with the administration? Is he on an IEP? Is this teacher a regular, or was she an aide?
