I have an amazing little boy who is very athletic and loves the outdoors. I have noticed lately that he does not want friends over and rather just hang out with the family. He has always been a kid who would rather hang out with his parents then friends. Is this typical at this age? Do friends become more of a priority when they get older? Just wondering... Thanks in advance for your responses...

Like your son, mine likes to hang out with the family. He has friends which is important but he enjoys being with us and his younger sister, I think he gets his friends fix at school and sees home as a time to relax and be with us. I have noticed that during summer vacation he seems to be more social and likes to see his friends. As they get older they do tend to be more social and friends become more of a priority.

Every child is different. None of my children feel the need to have other's around (my son is 17 my daughters 12 and 9). He may change in the future so for now, enjoy that he is a homebody.

i don't know if am well placed to answer this question since my son lives with my parents, but talking to my mum n the times i get to be with my son,we both noticed that he prefers playing alone and hanging out with family, especially adults n even prefers doing adult stuff but in his mind views them like games to him e.g....he would take the tv's remote n keep adjusting the color, volume n stuff like that.or just take a screw driver n start fixing up stuff which in his mind he deems are broken and need repairs.don't know whather it has anything to do with the age thing or its just hanging around adults.
