Does anyone have children who have gone through or are going through various different "ticks" that may be a sign of touretts? and if so what are some of the different "ticks" your child has been using?

My son has had tics off and on since he was six. Mostly eyes or head looking to one side, hands moving repetitiously. His Dr. told me not to worry, they were just outlets for nervous energy. He is 12 now and rarely does them anymore.

Thank you both so much for your input. My son does get worse when he gets nervous or tired it sounds a lot like your story. I will have it checked to be safe but it helps take some of the worry away :) Thank you again

Yes my daughter has tics and has gone through testing. She sniffs, her eyes wiggle around, rubs her nose, licks around her lips (and more) she does it all with out knowing she is doing it. In her case it was not touretts, just tics. After some tests Dr said she should grow out of it eventually. She started around age 6 and is now 11. She is really bad when tired, nervous or stressed out. Dr also told us that tics that start early before age 10 usually do not mean touretts! You should talk to your Dr but don't worry too much. We are honest with her and everyone about her tics and it helps her not stress as much. We were also givin the choice to medicate her with anti-depressants (which could help) but decided against it for now. If she grows out of them like they think she will great if not oh well no worries. Plus come to find out I also had them as a kid and did grow out of them!
