what do you do when your 5 year old is whining and crying about going to kindergarten.

Try to show your child you are secure and confident with going to kindergarten. If the child know you are not hesitant, slowly the child will rub off you. Remember it is always scary even for us adults to do new things, but at the end of the day your child would enjoy the day of playing and meeting new friends. Usually children tend to this to us but once we are out of sight they will have a blast. You can take a look at my blog for a bit of a laugh about the subject (From my personal experience with my 2 kids) Osnat http://maaslife.blogspot.com/2009/08/smo...

I know this is not only scary for you, but for your child. All you can do is re-assure him/her that they will enjoy kindergarten. It is ok for for you to stay with your child until he/she feels comfortable. You may have to do this a couple of times. Most teachers are fine with it, also I would let the teacher know as well so he/she can make the transition a little easier for both of you.
