I've been thinking of things to do while my 5 yr old is on x-mas break... arts and crafts, a few x-mas parades, activities here and there, library... but it just seems like i keep thinking of the same old stuff. What do you do during the 2-3 weeks the kids have off from school?? I need some new ideas to do to keep my son from getting bored.

Hey, nothing's "wrong" with the same old things!! Besides, what you're able to do depends on your budget. I would suggest the movies (theatre and BlockBuster), different Christmas activities (i.e. plays, light displays), school work, TV programs, and check out what's happening at the library...even doing a little more reading isn't bad either. Good Luck!!

We have vacation swimming where we live (Western Australia) which runs each day for 10 days, its held at the beach or local aquatic centres, for $1 a day and some pools will caharge you a small entrance fee. I also put my 6 year old into vacation care for a couple of days at our local childcare centre as they have lots of fun activities running throughout the holidays. Hope this helps :)

My kids go to school every other day right now and so they are done on Wednesday and have 2 weeks off as well. My girl is 5 and my boy is 4 and some of their favorite things to do are color, draw, practice printing their names, and of course now that they just recently learned how to read - reading is a big thing. They also really like to play games as a family and we are hoping that we can go skating a few times. We have the Olympic Torch coming through our city on the 21st so we are going to go to a big party type thing that has live music and skating and stuff. I would just take lead of what the kids would like to do within limits and give them time to do stuff on their own as well.

We will probably go ice skating at least once when the kids are off school. If we get snow, there will of course be days full of sledding and building snowmen. I'm also considering that the second week will be right after Christmas so they will have plenty of time to enjoy their new toys. Beyond that, it's their vacation and free time to relax or play at their leisure. I'll be here to make sure no one is injured! =)

Actually I am thinking of the same old things. The kids get off school on Friday and then I have them at home with me for 2 weeks. That's hard at times to have an 11, 8, and 2 year old stuck at home together. I got a few crafts to do that they can give out for Christmas if they wanted to, I figured we could rent movies one day, maybe go to the zoo or COSI, and play games. Other than that they will be on their own to figure out how to entertain themselves. I want them to have fun, but to be honest, I think it's also important for them not to rely on me to figure out things to do.

My husband is going to take off about a week during this time so he'll probably have some idea as well. It's just hard as well since they are off all day and I'm feeling so broke right now from all of the gifts I've bought for Christmas.
