I did potty traing in the summer and just put shorts on my child. Everything else still felt like a diaper to them. They were potty trained in less then a week.

PATIENTS, TIME, AND PATIENTS. WE REWARDED OUR SON WITH STICKERS WHEN HE WAS SUCCESSFUL AND ENCOURAGED HIM TO DO BETTER WHEN HE WASN'T. CHILDREN WILL TRAIN WHEN THEY ARE READY. IT TOOK MY LITTLE BOY A LONG TIME TO BE COMPLETELY TRAINED, BUT THE WEEK OF HIS 3RD BIRTHDAY, IT JUST CLICKED. HOPE THIS HELPS.

I agree, either use cloth diapers or just regular little undies...it took my kids longer when we used Pullups, i think its because they don't feel wetness.

My daughter was so easy!  She got the hang of it within a few days.  My son on the other hand is driving me nuts!  He is 95% trained at daycare, but hates going at home!  He doesn't mind standing to pee, but it is torture to get him to sit.

With both I have done potty prizes.  My daughter got little dolls and my son gets matchbox cars.  He loves getting a new car (when he poops in the potty) so you would think it would happen more often!

I like the idea of no more "butt spa"  I am gonna have to try that!

My girls were very easy to train, but then I had a boy. He will be 4 in May and wouldn't even dicuss it. We had been talking about it for a year straight and my family was getting frustrated. But I knew it had to be his idea to do it. There is no way to make them until they are ready. Sure enough, the other day he dicided he wanted to wear underwear and go on the potty. He trained himself in 1 day.

Be patient, and don't push, it will only make it harder. They will do it when they are ready even if you are ready long before them!!!

We used cloth diapers to start the potty training process before my daughter turned 2. Although it was quite a commitment and a lifestyle change fo rmy husband and I, it was indeed well worth it. Being in cloth diapers seemed to make my child much more aware of what was going on 'down there,' which I believed helped her feel the discomfort--unlike disposables that soak up the initial wetness, thereby eliminating that soggy feeling. We also allowed her to roam around in her 'birthday suit,' which seemed to help her be more physically cognitive of her bodily functions. Sure, there were a few accidents here and there, but she was fully potty trained by 2 1/2.  I would like to add to Corey's statement that it not only depends on age and if they're ready, but if you're ready also. I believe the commitment on your part plays a critical role in the potty training process, and your child will respond accordingly--even though it can be a slow process, you'll eventually get there. I don't know if you watch John & Kate Plus 8, but as an incentive and reward she gave her toddlers one Skittle (or M&M...I can't remember) each time they used the potty. I really liked that idea, but they didn't have the show 2 1/2 years ago, and I was adamant about not  feeding my child any candy. However, I've mellowed out a bit, and I'll be sure to try it when my infant comes of age for potty training.

Depends on how old your little one is and if they're ready.  I did a few different things to potty train my girl.  She was 3 or so when we started.  We bought a potty watch from One Step Ahead and set it to go off every 1/2 hour.  She was so excited when it started to play music and we'd make a big deal about "oh it's time to go to the potty".  I also bought Once Upon A Potty book from them and we'd read it only in the bathroom.

The last thing I did is when I found out she was completely potty trained at preschool just not at home I stopped the "butt spa".  There was no more laying her down and getting her clean and pampering her with all this attention.  She had to remove her clothes, put them in the laundry hamper and get her wipes and help wipe herself clean etc.  It wasn't nearly as much fun for her then.

Hope some of this helps... good luck.
