Just curious how the rest of you find time to scrapbook?

I try to fit in when the kids are either napping, in bed sleeping or on the weekends when my hubby is here & willing to give me some spare time!!! I even plan days away with my scrappin' friends about 6 weeks apart so I can have at least one full day here & there to catch up!!! I'm 2 yrs behind!!! having that second child sure slows the creative times down!!!LOL

I try to take a weekend (day) just for myself about once every 6-8 weeks, and sit downstairs while everyone else is gone, or napping and work on my pictures. My kids love to "help" also, so give them some cheap construction paper and sissors and glue, and let them have at it! They will have just as much fun as you will.

I used to have m own scrapbook room! I decorated it so cute and organized to my hearts content! Then, my daughter was born and we needed it for a nursery! What to do?? I condensed down and currently we share the room. I have my desk, armoire and filing system all lined up on one wall. She has the rest of the room. THis will work until she begins walking and then Mommy has to move out!!

My hubby has his own room/office and he has been warned that by her first b-day, he MUST have his stuff condensed also and be ready to share his room with me!! He's slowly getting used to that idea...

Before her birth, I would scrapbook often and whenever the urge struck, but now it is not accesible most of the time, as she is 5 months old and still sleeps alot. I am currently working on our wedding album (3 years later) and have the needed items all over the dining room table!! I do scrap when she is asleep- at least during one of her naps, not usually more than that as I have other things to do.

I have a Creative Memories consultant and I go to her evening crops. They are my girls nights out. Also sometimes I just send DH out with our son for a few hours and work away at the dining room table.

Like everyone, I'm busy and I don't have time to scrap if I don't *make* it. There are many days/nights when I COULD if I wanted to, but I simply don't have the energy or motivation. I do go about things in two ways - one being that I work in tiny bits, leaving a project out and working on it just for a few minutes at a time when I can. The other is to have a dedicated day or weekend to cropping - usually outside the house. My mom and sisters scrap so we try to do a getaway once or twice a year. Then I may do local one day stuff more frequently. With a baby on the way, some of this is definitely about to change. But I do agree - it's all about *choosing* to make the time.

I agree with most of the others... you have to make time to do it. i used to do a little each day when my girls were small. i'd crop while they were napping. now they're older. So, i try & choose 1 day a month to do it & then also take advantage of cropping retreats or all-day crops in my area.

the digital Creative Memories software is awesome too. I do some of my albums digitally. You can do those on the sofa in the evenings & there's no mess to clean up.

good luck!

I try to do most of mine on the weekends wen the kids are napping. If I find myself falling behind I will do some on the week nights.

I have a friend who organizes an all day event 4 times a year. That is when I get a lot of stuff done! I have recently started to keep my supplies out on my dinning room table and every so often I will do a few pages. Even if it is just a two page layout or a few pages of one event, I feel accomplished!

I have a couple of suggestions - maybe similar to what others have said. My biggest suggestion is to get organized! If I have the photos, paper and embellishments I want to use categorized so all I have to do is grab them I am much more likely to find the time. Second a friend taught me this - pull out the stuff for a page or two at a time and put them in page protectors so when you get a 15 or 20 minutes you can just pull out the page, embellishments and paper and stick it all down then you have a little time left to journal. I also have toys and craft supplies that my kids like to play with while I am scrapbooking so they like to spend time with me while I am doing it. My last suggestion is to take up digital scrapbooking. There is no mess, you can use premade quick pages or templates that make it so slick. You can find most of your digital papers and embellishments for free so all you have to pay for is to print the finished page. Hope this helps!

my little one loves when I scrapbook - there are so many neat things for her to play with. I give her, her own box of stickers, paper, etc to play with and it keeps her entertained while I do my thing!

I scrapbook in 5 steps -- not all in one night. Step 1: Find photos to put in album; Step 2: Put one piece of tape on back of photo and place on the page you want in your album; Step 3: Crop Photos, Step 4: Add colored paper and embellishments; Step: Journal. The more I see my photos, the more I get inspired, so I don't necessarily complete a page on the first night. It may take a few days.

I hadn't scrapbooked for Loooooooooooooong time after our sprout was born. Now, I go to a friend's house who hostesses a scrapbook retreat about every 6 weeks or so and get as much done as I can. Also, I am in the process of setting up a scrapbooking room in our house so I can leave my stuff out. Half of getting a project done is getting out all the right stuff, IMO.

After my daughter was born, I didn't have time between taking care of her and dealing with my 4-yr old. Now, she's learning to take afternoon naps and I try to do a little bit at a time. It also helped to get a folding craft table where I can leave unfinished projects for later.... But, I have to admit it's just kind of tough to find the time although I tell myself I have to do at least one page for the month.

I went digital! Creative Memories has a great software program! You can fiddle with layouts, drop and drag pictures, and they have all of the great paper, expressions, embellishments... you name it... that CM traditional line carries. The best part is... do it when you want... when kids are napping, playing by themselves... and you don't have to drag out and clean the mess... just save and leave the computer or shut the laptop! I still go to monthly crops for the social part and to get great ideas... I just take my laptop! Totally worth the investment!

I run a monthly crop where ladies/moms (we even had a man once) can go at it one Friday night a month from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. We always have a blast. In addition, I have a table set up in my basement dedicated to scrapbooking, it stays up all the time. When I'm waiting for the laundry to finish and my 2 yr. old is watching a show or playing next to me, I just sit down and get a few things done. Slow and steady.

And yes, Katherine, that gets on my nerves too. I had one lady keep telling me, "Keep reminding me, one day I'll get there." One day she said, "As soon as my daughter gets back into school this fall, I'm going to attend." I flat-out told her, "No you won't! If it's not your daughter, it will be someone or something else. You won't be there until YOU make it a PRIORITY!"

I try to get as much done as possible at retreats. I usually go on Friday night and stay til late Sat night. THat way I can still get home and get the kids to church on Sun. I only do this 1- 2 times a year, but that is my "me" time. I don't feel guilty b/c I'm working on beautiful memories for my children to cherish for years to come! They soooo love to look at what I've done when I get home!

I like some of you go to workshops and all day events that other Creative Memories consultants host to get my scrapbooking done. I also to go overnights which are so much fun. You just have to make the time to do the things that you enjoy. Us moms are entitled to it, right? Getting your supplies organized and cropping and laying out your pages ahead of time, before you attend an event, allows you to be even more productive.

[deleted account]

I agree with Katherine... I CHOOSE to scrap! I sell Creative Memories to feed my habit! lol. Of course I only scrap when my 16 mo. old is napping/sleeping. The crafting room is also the play room, so my 4 year old is either playing or working on her own crafts while I scrap. Most times, I put them both to bed at night and then after I finish cleaning or doing laundry or dishes (or all of the above) it's later at night and I'll scrap to unwind. I get carried away and scrap into the wee hours of the morning. I get the "I'm too busy to scrap" line all the time. Just try not to take it personally because you know you are very busy, too... I mean, you're a MOM! Of course you are busy!! lol. You just choose to scrap instead of whatever they choose to do. Besides enjoying scrapping, I feel it's very important to make that photographic and journaling keepsake of our lives. My girls already cherish their books, so the time and effort is more than worth it!

I used to say I didn't have the time either, but then I realized I was CHOOSING not to spend the time. I wait until my kids go to bed (which is early right now since their young) and then take a couple hours. Luckily my scrapbook area is right off our living room so I can still communicate with my husband.

My friend and I meet every Monday night to stamp. I go to her house so I can get out of mine, and without the distractions, we're able to get alot of crafting time in...along with adult conversation! It's great. I look forward to my Monday nights :)

Hello everyone! My mother and I have gone to a couple crops at Archivers and I got a bunch of pages done and sometimes when I go to my parents my mother will watch the little guy and let me scrap (she has taken over the basement with are her scraping and card making stuff). Otherwise, it's a little here and a little there. Still haven't found a good way to organize myself though.

Well, when my husband is out of town, I go downstairs into 'my room' and scrap on an old kitchen table. My son uses the other side of the table to do whatever his heart desires and that counts as 'mommy time'. We have a small portable tv on a bureau which doubles as storage and we only leave the room to eat! ~Wanda

When I get my pics developed, I pick out my 12 x 12 colors and 2 accent colors and put them in my stack to do... Once every 3 months my church hosts a no kids allowed... ALL DAY CROP. From 8 am until 8 pm you get to do what you want.... Since I sell Stampin' Up!, they love when I come because all my friends get to use my stamps, ink, cutters etc for free. It also makes me get my pages done by showing others how to use SU! It is a win win situation!

I have a kids craft table and some toys and fun crafts in my craft room. That way my 2.5 yo can play and craft at the same time. My 7week old still sleeps a lot. When he gets to the point of movingaround a lot I know that my only scrapping time will be be when he is sleeping:)

Hello,

Honestly I Scrap in the weeee hours of the mornings and late at night when the house is all asleep, and clean. Sometimes I try in the afternoons, when everyone has quiet time and nap time, but not normally. I know between kids, laundy, housework, reading with the kids, library day,gymnstics...the list goes on, and on......It's extremely hard to find time.

My friends and I created "Crop Club". We get together at a friends house once every 6 weeks or so. It's so much more motivation to scrapbook with friends.

Since I don't have enough room in my house to dedicate an area for my scrapbooking, and friend and I found a local scrapbooking shop that has crops every weekend, so we try to go one night a month. It really helps not having any distractions, and we get some adult time too :)

I scrap best at long events where I GO someplace. It's a shame really because I have a beautiful scrapbook room, I need to just invite a friend or two over to my place I guess.

I find it so insulting when you're talking to nonscrappers and they say "Oh, I'm much too busy so scrap. I would never have the time for that."

I think it's rude. I always ask, "Do you watch tv? Read? Go out to movies or bars? If yes, then you have time to scrap you just don't have the desire to scrap."

So how about you ladies? Does that comment drive you batty or is it just me?

It took me 3 years to figure out how to do it. I have an area in our extra room set up with a drafting table and some storage. I organized all of my stuff and I only allow myself to put one project's worth of pictures on the table at a time. With everything right here I do a page here...do a page there.. and eventually get some done. Don't try to play catch-up. Just work on the present.

About 3 min. at a time now. Before children I could sit at complete a few projects in an hour or two. Now I just do what I can during nap-time...when I'm not napping anyhow :) lol
