It can be overwhelming when you first start. Along with all the other great ideas you've been given, I would just focus on one thing at a time. Pick the first few sets of photos you want to scrap then get the paper & stickers for that. Before you know it, you'll pick up things here & there and have a good collection together. Good luck and have fun!

there is also stamping up if you looking for some cute ideas. they also have great ink..its funny I use creative memories stamps but use stampin up ink, their ink is really good...I take a lot of ideas from the magazine keepsakes too..be careful makes sure any of your stuff you buys is acid free or it will eventually eat your pictures..good luck and just have fun with it.. P.S. if you have a scrapbook store in your erea they may have some classes on the basics that you cn take...

I wasn't very creative when I first started out either. I didn't know anything about scrapbooking let alone anyone else who actually scrapbooked. I started off using a single background and collaging pictures randomly all over it. It's a learning process. I look back at those very first pages and think, "What on earth was I thinking?" I've learned so much since then and still learning. Sometimes it's just a matter of getting that creative flow going. I love the different scrapbooking magazines. They help with different layout ideas and different things you can do. Practice makes perfect. Just keep practicing and above all remember to have fun. :) I'll often get stumped and have to put one project down and pick another one up because I just don't have it in me to think THAT difficultly over one project. Normally, I'm able to go back to it the following week and be fine.

There is a scrapbook company called Close To My Heart. Thy have books you can buy that are full of scrapbook layout pages! They take you step by step through putting it together! Love those books! They also have books to help you make cards! It's one of those companies that you order ur stuff through a consultant. I've actually been a Close To My Heart consultant for 2 years now. I absolutely LOVE their stuff! Watch out, it's seriously addictive! If you go onto their website, Closetomyheart.com, you can view their catalogue and find a consultant near you! Hope this helped! Have fun!

I have purchased a few scrapbooking magazines off newstands just to get ideas. I am not usually very creative either, but after an hour or two the creative really starts to flow and it gets easier in time. Although creative memories has great items, a new scrapbooker may be better off purchasing items from smaller retail stores because of the expense involved. I started out with papers, stickers, and templates. Now that I own a retail store, I have purchased a paper trimmer and I also print out my digital pictures already cropped and in smaller sizes to save time. I also have different books for different functions: one for each kid, weddings, family- the 4 of us and one of extended, one of pets. I find it much easier if I can just add a page or two at a time to "other" books because my childrens books are getting so large. Good luck!! and just have fun. The more you do, the better and easier they will come together.

A great place for layout ideas is splitcoaststampers.com. They do a scrapbook page layout each week and have a huge inventory of ideas. You can also look at completed pages. I love Scrapbooks, Etc. magazine. I buy most of my paper, tools, etc. at Joann's. Joann.com has more brad, flower, etc. options than are available in the store if you know what you're looking for. Ebay also has a couple of stores (craftsone is one of my favorites) that have unique embellishments. I was looking for Tae Kwon Do paper, not karate, and I found it on Ebay after I tried every store around here...and there are many. Have fun with it...whatever you come up with will be great. Get together with local scrapbooks at a store or someone's home and share idea.

I really like the magazine "Creating Keepsakes"...it has a ton of great ideas, layouts, and color combos! I tear out the pages I want to remember and try and keep those in my scrabook tote so if I get stuck, I can pull out those pages and get inspired! Do you have an Archivers in your area? They always offer scrapbook classes! You may also want to look into finding a Creative Memories consultant in your area. The products are a little pricey but great quality and the consultant can help you get organized! Hope these tips help!

I think the best way to figure things out is to try a lot of different products and you will slowly figure out what you like the best. Some people tend to stick to one "brand" or style and I am more of a product junkie! I have a cricut machine and I use some stampin' up products, creative memories products and an assortment of products from my local scrapbooking stores. I find Michaels to be a tad on the expensive side but if you watch their flyers you can get some great deals.

Besides going to classes (which is also a fantastic idea) go on Kijiji or some local community boards and try and find a scrapbooking "convention" or weekend where you can go and take all of your stuff and sit and work on your scrapbooks all weekend. I have found that you can talk to tons of different women and see all sorts of styles and get a million ideas at these sort of things. I have learned so many different techniques and gotten a lot of great ideas that I can use over and over or adapt for my own style at these types of weekends. It doesn't even have to be a whole weekend... even a one day thing would be really helpful.

I think the biggest thing to remember is to be brave and try lots of different things! You'll be amazed at how creative you actually are!!

I suggest a "beginner's" class from your Local Scrapbook Store (LSS) which is usually more helpful than any from the chain stores. A couple of excellent web sites give you lots of free layouts to get your creativity started. Try www.2peasinabucket.com and www.scrapbookingtop50 Angie Peterson has lots of really good ideas. If you tell us about where you live maybe we can suggest some good stores nearby.

Hi Becky!

While I'm new here in this community I've been scrapping for about 2-3 years and picket it up pretty quick. The possibilities are endless! There are a bunch of ways to get ideas and inspiration for your scrapbooking projects.

Some basics would be...

First off, decide what size you are wanting to do. I prefer the 12x12 sized which is kind of standard.

Cardstock & Printed papers (Solid, prints, glitter, metallic, pearlescent, etc.) try and make the colors coordinate with eachother.

In addition to the stickers, markers, and scissors, you may want to get some other things that are essentials.

ADHESIVES -- ACID FREE!!!

Glue/Tape runners and plenty of refils, pen type liquid glues for smaller items, Some that I really like are the Creative Memories precision point glue pen (my must-not-run-out-of stuff) also there are some really good ones that you can get from a craft store or walmart. (Zig 2 way glue pens) see link: http://www.baby-memory-books.com/PhotoDe...

I don't recommend the liquid glue sticks because they have a tendancy to wrinkle any thinner papers.

Another thing you may want to get are vellum sayings, rub ons, letter stickers, etc. Unless you have a die cutting machine where you can buy fonts and stuff.

I recommend some other tools like an Xacto Knife, Tweezers, Rulers, etc. One of those sliding paper cutters, I like the Craft Light Cutter because it has a backlight where you can actually see the line where it's going to cut.

You may also want to grab up some coordinating ribbon, brads, buttons, rhinestones, paper flowers, chipboard letters and shapes, etc.

There are tons of places you can find ideas. The Cricut website has a lot, you can go to YouTube and search for tutorials and ideas there.

If you have a Creative Memories (or other similiar) consultant they can give you lessons as well. Just remember that you don't have to keep with the same style as your consultant. Don't be afraid to throw something extra in there!

Like Michelle said, books and magazines are GREAT for inspiration and ideas, and you can sometimes go to classes at Michaels, A.C. Moore, or your local scrapbooking store!

WELCOME to the world of scrapbooking! It a great hobby to take up and while it can end up being a pricey thing to get into, the rewards of it are so great on many levels!

If you ever have any questions, please feel free to send me a message I'm always willing to help!

I use the website www.scrapbooksetc.com all the time. You could also grab a copy of the magazine (ScrapbooksEtc). Or check out your local Chapters (or whatever bigger chain is nearby), the Chapters I go to has a big selection of books! Which I find come in handy.

As for tools, glue, tape, scissors, paper trimmer, other embellishments (paper flowers, brads, etc.) For my tools I either hit Michaels or sometimes buy from Creative Memories.

Good luck and have fun with it!
