Paying for a completed scrapbook.

I was wondering if any scrapbookin' mommas have heard of or would consider completing a scrapbook as a payed service. My MIL had suggested it to me after looking through a completed album and I was curious on others thoughts.

Apparently it is not to uncommon and can have decent compensation. The buyer would obviously get the pictures prepared and complete the journaling, but would pay for creative page layouts and supply the designer with paper and supplies.

I think that's a great idea.Alot of people love the idea of scrapbooking only they don't have the time. The hardest part would be how to charge.

I thought about doing it for others, but like others were saying its time consuming..
and like others say, it wouldnt be so personal. I think while putting together a book, it will allow you to travel down the memory lane and you maybe will want to add additional thoughts in your journalling. Just my opinion.. I do have MANY MAMBI scrapbooking stickers on Ebay.. very cheap, and need to get rid of them out of my storage. Please see my store- luckydogdiggs on ebay.
I love scrapbooking, just got tied up with a TON of extra stickers, I would like to share.

There is def. a market for this. I have been a professional scrapbooker for aver 5 years. It is just like any other business-there are all kinds of laws to adhere too, it is not like you can just scrapbook for others without following the law (well of course you CAN but that doesn't make it legal-lol!) nd you still need to market, do finances, network (and of course the scrapbooking part!). If you would like to check out my business you can visit:
http://www.Remembered-Moments.com

It takes A LOT of time-I work 40+ hours a week doing all aspects of my business. Feel free if you have questions to contact me, I would love to talk with you if you are interested.

Honestly I have done it for a few family members and a few friends.. so yes it can work.. cause there are some people that hate it but love the outcome. If they aren't willing to buy and give you the stuff then you get a list and tell them how much it will cost and go from there. you can sit with them and order the stuff and let them see how you aren't over doing it or anything, just your time..

I have talked about wanting to be able to do just that for years. I live just north of Orlando, FL. You could print the pictures, mail them to me with supplies that you want me use. Don't forget to send journaling if you want. I could mail them back complete.

Hi Danielle,

I have done these on 3 occasions. (It's quite time-consuming, I must say.) I began by asking them for a desired "theme" 3 colors and a favorite pattern they like. (also asked for colors they dislike) Examples: Birthday / Like: pastel blue, hot pink and light green / stripes / Dislike: purple, red, floral Then I made 5 layout examples. (to cut down on the amount of time spent in designing each page) Once I had all this, I found Etsy. :c) I've also used Craigslist, Silkfair, Indiepublic and Ebay. There are endless avenues available. Good Luck.

I could never buy a scrapbook from someone else, but I do have people that I do the layout and they add their own pictures and journaling. I also know some people that have me do their scrapbook including their pictures and they just add their own journaling. It comes down to individuals having time in their schedule. I am a stay at home mom, so yes I use this as extra money and enjoy doing it. It all depends on the individual.

Like in my situstion i would say no, because all i have is time...BLA! lol...but i have heard of it and there are plenty of moms that are busy or not creative and would love to have the memories scrapbooked for them. I have even thought of selling pages like that on ebay, since i recently purchased new and improved scrapbook factory, it makes it all very easy.

I actually do that for people.. They give me the photos, in a organized way, either by month or folders and then I make their books. I charge anywhere from 1 dollar to 5 dollars per side. If it is ellaborate, I obviously charge 5 dollars. the pages I do are varied. Then, I charge for supplies that I use.

I definitely think there are people out there who would hire you to complete a scrapbook for them. Recently my aunts and uncles put together a scrapbook for my grandmother's 90th birthday (each child did a 2 page layout - there are 9 kids), and I know several of them would have been happy to have someone else put their pages together for them. Also people who want to give a gift perhaps might be interested. I've given scrapbooks to family members as gifts and I think you can personalize it a lot even though you may not know them. Good luck to you!!

My MIL bought a pre-made Winnie the Pooh scrap book for our baby album. It was such a blessing to have a start to putting in his first pictures. I added about 6 pages myself and you can't really tell the difference. She spent $40 and the lady personalized for us. She was even kind enough to wait until after the baby was born for his name.

I have done a book without pictures as a gift for my MIL. I recently prepared a calendar for a neighbor who supplied pics, calendar and paper. She supplied some embellishments but i also used some of mine...I know what i have and have a good variety. I would love to talk to you about preparing an album for a fee.

HI Danielle
I'm a scrapbook consultant, and have seen this question come up a lot on some of my consultant groups.
Personally, I wouldn't do it. I don't have the time to do my own, let alone anyone else's. And I would be worried that they don't like my style. Also, I think it lacks that personal touch. The love and affection behind each page isn't there.
Just my opinions, if you feel it's something you could do, give it a go! :-)

Creative Memories Consultants do this as a customer service to their customers. We get to know what you like and don't like and then create a book for you using your pictures. You just pay for the supplies when it is finished. Or you can do one strickly online and make one yourself and have it printed and shipped straight to your door in a hardcover book.

I made a scrapbook for my sister-in-law when her daughter was born, but that was for fun and as a present. Part of what makes scrapbooking so fun is looking back and being proud of what you have created (at least for me!).

Hi, I hope this helps. I, myself, have done a few scrapbooks for people. I charged by doing this:

the first lady gave me cd's of pictures and told me approx how many pages she wanted in the album. It was for a first bday party. So, I put 2-4 pics on a page...charged her for what the total pics cost. She gave me an approx on what to spend for the paper, stickers, markers, etc. and I gave her my receipts and she paid me back. Then I charged her half of the total cost she spent on supplies... for my work put into the book. She spent about 35.00 in pics, 60.00 in decor. 15.00 on the book itself. I made about 60 bucks. It took me a few hours each evening for about a week.

The other books I've done: the people have given me a stack of pictures and decorations and said this is all the stuff we want in the book. I have access to a print shop at cost. So I've told them I will blow up so many pictures (example: for a 1yr bday party book, I blew up a pic to an 8x10 for each month the child was here. = 12 pics). The rest was organixed by what they already had given me.

prices on those: 2.00 a page and each pic I blew up was a 5.00 page.

so if you have 50 pages, that's a 100.00 and 12 8x10 pages = 60.00 more.

you can make quite a bit on something like that.

I'm actually doing this. I have family that is graduating and my mom just doesnt have the time to do it all, so she gave me a chunk of money to spend on the costs of the album and the like, and I'm going through and constructing it for her.

I have actually been asked to design one for a friend's wedding. I told her the price could be pretty steep. I am going to do all the "work" for free as a gift, but any cost incurred would be her responsibility because I can't afford to purchase all the supplies. My only "compensation" on this project will be whatever leftover supplies I would keep.

I am actually on the fence about this myself. There could be some real compensation involved. The thing is, I take so long to scrapbook (average 2 hours per page) and I am very detail oriented and put a LOT of thought and time into it and in my case I'd probably never make a decent enough amount of money to do it on the regular.

I have sold a "hybrid" book I did digital layouts with real embelleshments and used the YOURSTORY binding system. I only charged $50 since it was my first book. Supplies cost around $35 and I spent about 2-5 hours a day for about 2 1/2 weeks on it so I didn't make any real profit.

I do enjoy it though and will probably do it for special requests but not on the regular.

Another option is make a bunch of premade layouts and sell at craft fairs.

People do this all the time. If you go to ebay and look up completed scrapbook pages, you will see that people sell on there all the time. I think if you get out there and advertise properly then it can work. Every business starts somewhere, I say go for it. You could even make books and sell them with out even knowing there person by just making standard pages. Make a few books and rent a space at a craft show, see how it works. You never will know unless you get out there and try it out. Make some other hand made paper crafts to sell also if you are into other things if not just do the albums and make a flier with your goal, business name, your name, contact information and prices. Just go for it. I personally have thought of it myself but I am on complete bedrest right now so I am holding off for a few... Good Luck!!! Diana

Last year I did 3 albums for christmas in 3 weeks for someone. She had all pictures in order numbered on the back, All 3 were just alike. so that made it easier. I am now in the process of doing 40 years of aChristmas pictures for the same lady. She supplies me with cash to purchase materials, I have done 173 pages. with 5-6 pic on each page

The first time she paid me with gift cards to restraunts, mall Macy and Dillards. it was much more than I thought . but it was good. She will pay me what ever. I have check and most folks that does this for money charge 10-20 dollars according to l page or 2 page layouts.

The compensation can be really good... they pay for time and materials... try doing a flat fee for 10 pages or so. It's rewarding and we have fund doing it! I do that as a side job. Good luck!

Though it may not possibly get the kind of personlization you would like, it is doable. A matter fact I love doing that stuff, and sometimes its easier with others pics than your own at times. It does require some conversating with the scrapbooker so they could get a feel for what was going on at the time of the pics and what kind of interest the person who will be keeping the album has. I wouldn't do it. I do the scrapbooking myself so that the kids can see my handwriting, not someone elses. Plus only I know all the details that I want in the pictures...if I think of something later, I just go back and add to it. I am sure some would do it just because they don't have the time or don't believe their pages can be as pretty as others. I wouldn't bash anyone that wanted someone other than themselves do it...it's just not for me. :o)

I had a friend who would scrapbooked for others. She got paid a nice price too! A lot of men who have pictures may just want the pictures in a nice layout without all of the journaling. It's a good idea, because not everyone likes to journal and don't have the time to put all of their pictures in a album. You can always leave a couple of lines for them if they want to write a line.

No book is truely finished. Life keeps going-therefore books keep going. Maybe individual wedding albums, but I would feel like I wouldn't have a real creative edge on what I was doing in that I was going by someone else's likes and dislikes. I've heard it is a good business for some, but if you're gonna do all that-you have the creative edge already and then you just have to put your heart into your book.

Depending on what kind of book. before i became a creative memories consultant i paid a consultant 200.00 for my digital wedding album and its awesome, it's 12x12 and 50 pages. I myself do 8x8 soft cover digital books about 20pgs for the parents of my sons football team and i charge 45.00 for the book and my time. which isn't bad considering the product. I suppose a traditional style would be much more expensive because it takes soooo much more time, although i like the affects of traditional digital is really the way to go especially if someone is doing it for you. Just my thoughts. I love scrapbooking doesn't matter if it's digital or traditional I love having my pictures somewhere other than on my comp or in cameral or in a box with journaling saying what its about. i think everyone should scrapbook and not just because im a CM consultant, because it means alot to everyone in your life.

Creative Memoriesstory book creater!!! It's completly digital so you can keep actual photos safe without putting glue or tape on them. You select what size book you would like and all of you pages, layouts and embelishments. It's super easy and you can take as little or as long as you would like to make it and the fact that you do it yourself is a big plus too, that way you have everything how you want it and have your favorite pictures where you want them. It's a program that you install to your computer and you can upload free pages and embelishments from the website. The quality is great!! I love it! The only time I made a scrapbook for anyone was for my friends "first baby." I had fun with it and when she got it she cried. It was well worth it but it took alot of time and patience not to mention money. Now her friend just had a baby and for her shower gift I promised to make her 5, 2 paged layouts for a scrapbook and she was thrilled. I would love to do it for an added income but how does one charge?
