If you have an area where you can leave everything out, that in itself will help you get more done. We don't have an area so I have to keep packing everything up. I'm so behind on it. Watch for the background paper on sale (Micheals, JoAnn Fabric) and stock on then. Have fun with it!

scrapbooking is literally a reflection of your personality and flair...think about things you can use that have an actual meaning to...for exampe, I kept the ribbons that were on my bridesmaids bouquets, thn I used the ribbon to make a "frame" for the photo of them...now I can point to it and "tell a story". Another example, I cut a gift bag that was from my niece (the to: and from: is on the bag itself in sharpie) and cut it 12x12 so I can scrapbook right on top of it...the possibilities are truly endless

These are all great ideas.... When I am stuck on a theme I just pick pictures that I want to scrap and my albums seem to work from there, I find thats the joy of being able to move your pages around in a top loading album to make it easier to follow.

Getting started can seem very overwelming. When I first started, I had all of these pictures and didn't know what to do. I have a teenage son, and wanted to do his baby pics. So, I started with a birthday scrapbook. I found all of his birthday party pics, and just started there, I did his first birthday, and went from there. He just turned 15 and I am up to date with the book. My advice is just pic a certain event, and do that one. After you have done a page or two...you will just take off and LOVE it! Good Luck, and God bless you and yours.

You could do a scrapbook of your life while he is deployed - the day to day things that he is missing out on. You can journal your thoughts, hopes, dreams, frustrations, etc. This book will show him what he missed when he was away, but in a way that will help him understand his new wife better!!

I think it is a man thing with the not caring. I have been married for a little over 2 years and gained 3 stepsons and I also have a son. My husband drives a semi over the road so he is rarely home. After being gone he now LOVES to look at the family scrapbook to see what all he has missed while he is gone. He misses his 3 sons activities and school stuff so it is neat for him to be able to look at it all when he does make it home.

Good advice from Mary. Have fun. Make use of some free downloadable scrapbook paper, that way if you mess up, you can just reprint from your computer. Try picking out colours from photos and match to colours on your scrapbook paper and embellishments, that way it all ties in nicely. Some people over do it and you cannot see photos for the embellishments.

Start by organizing your photos. Start with your most recent & work backwards. There a tons of examples all over the web, Creative Memories, Jo-Ann's, AC Moore, Cricut.....almost no need to buy magazines. Figure out how much paper & embellishments you like per page. Too much not only takes more time but might make your pages bulky & your book won't close. Some people regret ever trimming their photos, negatives saved? Do you like the borders on you photos? They also have the corners that you can just slip your photos into. Ask the person next to you in the shopping aisle, she'll tell ya what she likes & doesn't. It will get easier as you do it. Each page will lead to another idea. Every page can be totally different in style & color. I am starting a heritage album (B&W), for that I have bought a stack of paper just for it. Keeping it all weathered & aged looking. Lay everything out first before adhering it. Check your design. You can always add to it later. Journal a little something on every page. Very important.
