I am a 1st time mom and surprised that my soon-to-be 14 month old is not walking yet. He's been crawling since 8 months and "cruises" all the time. Just curious if others out there have a similar situation?

I'm sure if he is crawling healthly and starting to stand on furniture etc he's fine. He is still within the average age for starting walking. If he hardly crawls and seems to have weakness in his legs, i recommend going to the doctors.

my little girl started walking at 16 month. I am a first time mom too. before that i worried too if my child could not walking. I always consulted to the paediatrician concerning the development of the child that still has not walk. the paediatrician calmed me if might not worry that was important the child continued to be trained to walk by parents in home. the possibility child still could not the road. because of having the worried feeling to the child, so as the child frightened of trying the road.

P.S. Our health insurance covered the PT like any other doctor's office visit. And we only had to go once a week for a month or so, so it wasn't too expensive. They teach you how to do most of the work at home.

My daughter started cruising at 10 months and didn't walk (or even take any steps on her own) until almost 18 months. We got her physical therapy at 17 months, and she started taking steps after 2-3 weeks, and she was able to walk across a room within a few days of her first steps. The PT said she doesn't have a good sense of where she is in space - some children have this problem, and they need extra coaching to try walking. So, if it gets close to 18 months, go ahead and look into PT. The state will probably pay for it if you can't.

Does he pull himself into a standing position? If not then maybe you should check with the doctor. It's true that every baby develops differently, but I can't believe everybody just shrugs it off like its nothing. It might be nothing but there might also be a problem, and many problems can be corrected with early intervention.

My son is 15 mon and doesn't walk yet either. My daughter was textbook with everything. crawled at 6 months walked at a year, so I'm always so worried that he's behind. He's taken a couple of steps, but is still afraid to let go. He was a late crawler too. I'm sure he'll do it in his own time, but for now I'm still worried aobut it, AND my arm is broken from carrying him! LOL He's a chunker!

All children do thing at different ages just keep that in mind, plus don't worry.

My son, Kayden didn't start walking until he was almost 14 months but had been crawling for a while also. I was worried that it would take him forever to walk. He would stand up and walk around the furniture while holding on but would never let go and walk on his own. However, one day he just let go and took off. So all I can say is be patient and one day he will take off and start walking. Every child is different and they all learn and grow in their own timing.

It may sound a little odd, but you can look at it as a small blessing. My little girl was an early walker, started before 11 months old, and it was a hard adjustment. She didn't have the "maturity" to handle this new skill. She didn't understand no or what her boundaries were so it was really hard. It isn't always better on the other side. Be patient and he will walk on his own time. :)
