We just found out the cut-off birthdate date for Kindergarten in Arizona is August 31st....bummer!

In my state it's August 31st as well. Which sucks so much, because no only will my son be a year older in K, but he's already much taller than his counterparts.



Also, everyone should be aware that EVEN IF your child passes the tests for early admittance, it's still up to the school psychologist.

we had that problem too. Her b day is Sept 14 and in AZ they had accepted her into pre k. We moved to wa right before school started and had to explain to her that they wouldn't let her start here. I could have put her into a church run pre k/daycare but I wanted a nonreligious school

In Wisconsin it is Sept. 1st and my daughter was born on Sept. 2nd, she actually can try for early entrance, but the principal at the school where she will go said that in the 17 years she has been there only 1 child passed the tests to get into it, because you have to test at the 98% because apparently during 3rd or 4th grade the stuff they start learning then is just too hard for them to understand since they aren't the right age, but i'm not sure i fully agree with that because of 1 day. my daughter is going to the kindergarten today to see what its like to be in school and she will be tested for the early entrance and they told me to sign her up for 4k just in case, so maybe that would be an option for you as well if it is offered at any of the schools, i know in my area though it is only a half day of school, but this may be an easier way for your child to not be deprived of the structure and learning ideals of what will be happening in kindergarten.

My little boy is in the same boat. We live in Arizona too. Being that he is a boy, I am okay with the fact that he'll be in Pre-K for a bit longer because the teachers who I have talked to recommend starting the boys a bit later for maturity reasons. I can completely understand your frustration though with having to pay for Pre-K for another year when it is just a matter of her barely missing the cut off!! I hope that you are able to find a solution and a good school for her.

I feel the same way here in Maryland. The cut off is Sept 1st and my daughter was born Sept 17th. It is frustrating because she is ready to go to Kindergarden. There is a test she could take but it is so hard to pass because they expect her to read on a mid 1st grade level and do 1st grade math to pass the test. She is on the same level as those going into Kindergarden next year. I hate for her to wait another year and be lazy in school.



I did find a private school that does make some exceptions to the rule and she is taking the entrance text on April 1st. I hope she passes.
