So Parker's birthday is coming up, well in 2 months, but I want to get a jump start on planning since school starts in a month. I was wondering if there is anyone on here that's from WI and is starting to think/plan their little ones 1st birthday. I would love to have it outside since they'll be TONS of people coming but didn't know if that would be a good idea. I'm planning on having it Sept 12th. I would love love love to hear any feedback anyone has. Parker's my first so I'm really new to the "planning the birthday party" thing :)

Thanks Ladies!!!!

I am in WI near Lacrosse and fort mccoy, my youngest's birthday is september 23, we will be celebrating in chicago a month early and on his birthday we are having a layed back day with just the family. I have found that kids don't care about the parties just that they have fun!! ( i have 3 older children). we always try to do something fun and not too overwhelming. At one they can get irritated with too much going on. This year we are doing small celebration with seseme street with just close friends and family. Maybe just order pizzas or grill out hot dogs and hamburgers!!!

Hey Kelly try 1stWishes.com it's part of the Celebrate Express company. My mom goes through Celebrate Express for my little brothers parties (he's 5) and loves it! Anyways, she signed my sister and I up for the 1st Wishes catalog since we're planning 1st Birthdays a month apart :) They have alot of really cute ideas in there. There's a little cupcake theme, mod monkey, lil slugger, farm animals, pooh and friends, a safari theme, sesame street.....I'm leaning towards the mod monkey theme - I call him my "little monkey" so I thought it was pretty cute. I'm planning on renting on of the shelters at a local park, it's the biggest space I could come up with for the large number of people that I'm inviting. Eck. I'm thinking BBQ sand. and things that are super easy to eat and don't go bad if it sits out for a while.

Windy - The snapfish idea is such a good idea!!! I never thought of that. Personal invites would be adorable, I don't know how I would pick the pictures to put on it though, he has sooooo many! hehe. I really like your idea for having people bring him a book. Maybe you could still do that but instead of keeping them for your little guy you could donate them to somewhere like the Salvation Army or a local Shelter for Women and their children, just an idea. It would be a double whammy - you get to celebrate your little guys big day and help others :)

Rebekah - Your Finding Nemo theme is Awesome! I Love Nemo, Dori is my Favorite. "Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming." hehe. The kids are going to love it.

Are any of you guys doing little gift bags for the little kids that you've invited?

My son's party will be on Aug. 29th, it will actually be early, since his actual birthday is Sept. 3rd, but we are avoiding Labor Day weekend. Ours will be inside/outside. Having a Nemo Party Theme, will have water games and other activities for the little ones that come. Food of course. Light decorations - balloons, will set up a photo area, and cake. Nothing too extravagant, don't want to burn the little guy out. :)

I'm in Pittsburgh, PA and planning on Sept. 12th too . . . his bday is the 9th. We are hoping for good weather so most people can be outside, we are inviting mostly family and some close friends with kids that we have. thinking of doing it at 11:30-1:30 or 2 so that then he can take a nap afterwards and in the morning if need be. Lunch can be a little lighter than dinner and we can do grill food so it's nice and easy!

I think I'm going to do custom invites on snapfish (put 3 pictures of him from first born to a few months to recent) with the details of the party. At first I was going to do Mickey Mouse theme because he loves Mickey, but I might save that and do a generic first birthday theme. Not like he'll really remember it anyways!!!!! I was considering asking each person to bring a book for him to help grow his library, but I’m worried we’ll get duplicates etc. I don’t know, just a thought. Looking for other ideas!!!!!!
