Chronic Ear Infections - Tubes??

My son Grady has had chronic ear infections starting when he was 4 weeks old. He has had over 7 ear infections and even had strep throat once! We saw a specialist yesterday and he told us there is chronic fluid in his ears, but that he is very little for tubes. If in the next 6 weeks he gets another infection or the fluid still doesn't go away they believe tubes should be put in. Has anyone else had this problem??

P.S. We do NOT smoke and starting in 6 weeks, Grady will no longer be in day care which is a major factor of ear infections.

That sounds like my son! He was 4 months old and had 4 ear infections. As soon as we saw a pediatric ENT, he said he normally wouldn't put tubes in someone so little, but because he had consatant fluid in his ears and he failed his hearing test, they put tubes in when he was 5 months old. He has since only had one ear infection and can now hear really well. At first he jumped at every noise when he first got the tubes because he had never really heard very well because of the fluid. My son has never been in day care so I don't know what his problem was but it has been fine since. The ENT said if we didn't do it soon, he would have to have speech therapy when he got older because he couldn't hear the specific letter we said in the words because he was so plugged with fluid. I am glad we did it. I would definitely recommend a pediatric ENT and/or a hearing test. Good luck!

I had tons of ear infections when I was little. Eventually I did have tubes put in, but they put it off until I was 6 (bad doc.) when I had my tonsils and adenoids out as well. They helped though, I don't remember any ear infections after that, and I don't get them now.

i dont have that problem with my child but i myself have dealt with ear infections and problems all my life i never had tubes put in but i highly recomend it.... it could stop the problems in the future...
