When Madison was first born, my nipples got really sore and cracked and I had to start pumping and feed her with a bottle. Now I find, sometimes, that I am not giving her enough. I always give her more if needed, but I find it hard to keep up!! Does any one pump their breast milk to feed?? I need some advice!!

Keep trying to breastfeed her. Your nipples will toughen up. Pump to give yourself a break once or twice a day, but your daughter will get more milk from breastfeeding because babies are much more efficient getting the milk out of your breast. It may feel like she isn't getting anything out nursing, but your breasts never "empty", and the more you can nurse the more they will make. Nursing takes a LOT of time and patience. I know it is SO hard at first. I found that taking a motrin a couple of times a day helped when the pain got bad. If you can get through the next little while you will be very happy, it gets a lot easier!

i've exclusively breastfed until the past couple of weeks and the time came when i needed to introduce the bottle -- i had difficulty ensuring i had enough milk for him and to introduce the bottle so i took motherlove's more milk plus tablets -- this natural supplement really boosts my milk supply so that i have more than enough to feed and pump to build up a supply -- you might want to try it?

Cara - I have exclusively pumped for my daughter since she was 1.5 weeks old and she is almost 9 weeks. It takes a lot of dedication to do it and I am surprised I have lasted this long honestly. I first started pumping every 2 hours to help build my supply and I am now pumping every 4-5 hours. It is hard if I have to go out, because the pump has to come with me, but I am so used to it now. I did it because my nipples were really sore and cracked and it hurt like a mother. She is now taking a 4 oz bottle of breastmilk every 2.5 to 3 hours.

I have to pump because of a similar problem. I got sore and he wasn't getting anything. So we had to supplement until he got the hang of it. Now here I am still pumping and waiting for him to figure out breast feeding. I can't pump enough either, but if you keep with it, she'll figure it out and you'll still have your milk. I went through this with my 1st born and once he started nursing (2 months old) I was able to stop pumping and even stop supplements.

I still breastfeed, but sometimes I pump to give to her, but she is usually hungry after eating from the bottle. I guess the pumps just don't do a good enough job.
