My son is 9 months old and he will pick up finger foods with his thumb and pointer finger but he won't put it in his mouth...he just plays with it. He will only eat the food if i put it in his mouth for him. Does anyone elses child do this? Also i tried giving him water/juice in a sippy cup and he just spits it right out. Is it ok that he doesn't drink water or juice?

My son picks up food and won't put it in his mouth either. The only way I can get him to put it in his mouth is if the pieces aren't so small. I just let him play and get familiar with the texture and feed him food. Eventually he'll get the hang of it. :)

My son would pick up anything and put it in his mouth....except food. He just likes to play with it, too. But i think it's good for them to at least experience the texture of the food and become familiar with it.

mine will be 9 months next week and for ever she was just picking food up and dropping it, but in the last day she has made it to her mouth and now has it down pat, it will come don't worry

My son only picks up the gerber puffs and eats them. The other finger food he picks up he just plays with. I also give him a sippy cup, but he just chews on it. Not interested in drinking yet.

He doesn't need water or juice (he never needs juice). He gets enough liquids from his bm/formula.
As for food, at least yours picks it up! Mine doesn't have the best pincer grasp and 75% of the food ends up on the floor, not in his mouth. Try showing him how you pick it up and put it in your mouth...maybe he'll copy you.
