Finger nails are sharp

everytime I file my son's nails its like world war III.....I have tried the soft approach, distraction, sleepy time and right after he wakes up...He just hates it and fights me every step of the way. Sometimes I feel I am being to forceful and might hurt him but I have to hold his hand pretty tight so he stops pulling it away. Sometimes I let them go a little too long to avoid the fight but then of course he ends up with scratches on his face and ears and on us too. Any tips on how to make this process a little less painful for the both of us. I am not going to attempt to use clippers yet cause of all of his jerkey movements I would just end up cutting his skin...

I always use clippers made for babies. Make sure to pull the skin back from the nail when you clip and you won't cut him. I sit my son on my lap and hold his fingers tight. He sometimes fights back but I found the best time to clip them is when he first wakes up in the morning when he is still sleepy. I sit him on my lap and let him watch some tv while I do it. I just clip Xiao's, I've never used a nail file on him. I cut him the first two times I clipped them (when he was a few weeks old) and haven't since then. I would give it a try!!
