Have you ever looked at a baby cow? They are not exactly slim... I plan on waiting until my son is a year. I love the controversy surrounding cow's milk though, and commend your thread. I find it amazing that in one article you'll read a Dr. stressing how important it is to drink [several glasses a day] milk because of all of the vitamin D that is in it. Then there will be another article saying to completely stay out of the sun because of all the harmful rays. In truth you could use a little moderation of both in your lives. Too much milk is just too many needless calories and fat that should be consumed in better forms, and the sun is the best place to find natural vitamin D. Just as variety is the spice in our lives so should it be in our children. My rule of thumb for feeding my son is as follows: If I'm not willing to eat/drink it then don't give it to him. At 10 months of age he has a diverse pallet. We are raising humans not cows. Thanks for the "controversy" :)

We do goats milk too- never been on formula. She will be 12 months in September, and she is still nursing in the morning, at night, and then two or three times during the day. Our two year old is allergic to cows milk, so we just went straight to goats milk with the baby too.

My little one has just started the weening, from formula to cows milk. Our Dr reccommended that we do it slowly. So currently he is on half milk half formula. But we did it gradually ( 1/4 Milk, 3/4 formula for a week ) then the Half and Half, then we will work to 3/4 Milk and 1/4 Formula for a week, until he is on milk completly. It takes about a month. So far so good. Hope everything works out for you!

I started my little one on cow's milk just before she was 10 months. She has never had formula, just breastmilk. I can't be sure how much she's drinking, but she nurses well when she wakes up and then maybe 3 times during the day and for sure at bedtime. She only drinks about 50mL of cows milk a day and we are hoping to gradually increase that and decrease breast feeds. Emma hasn't had any issues with the cows milk. As always, the choice is up to you! :)

my son is 12 months on sept 8th. he is having 2 x 240ml bottles per day,one in morn and one at night. I am planning on keeping him on formula for as long as possible and then changing him over to toddlers formula at 12 months. Its cheaper to buy formula and it has more vitamins and minerals etc....

Hi, my son will be 1 on Sept. 13th, and he's been gradually weaning off the breast. He's been losing interest in breastfeeding one meal at a time, which I was substituting formula in a bottle, but at 10 months, I've started him on whole cow's milk. He's down to one feeding on the breast a day (first morning feed), and he eats table food 3 meals a day and 2 to 3 bottles of whole milk (5-6 oz each). I had asked his dr about it, and of course she said whole milk at age 1, they all have to say that! I felt that since he doesn't have any food allergies/sensitivities, it made sense for us to start the milk a bit early--two months early was not a big deal.
