My little guy is 9 mon. He eats three times a day and is a good eater. I am trying to wean him off of breast milk. We are down to only feeding three times a day am, lunch, bedtime . So i thought i would just put him on Homo milk, at lunch time and slowly introduce homo milk and wean him off of me. Well, we went to our nine mon check up and the doctor/Nurse pract. told us not to put him on milk until he is 12 mons. Here is the problem. I have been trying to give him formula all this week and He will not take it. My son doesn't turn any food away! But formula he will not take... I have tried warm, cold. bottles. cups, thick thin..... No luck any suggestions?

I was told that you can mix a bit of breastmilk with formula to make the transition easier...Just use less and less breastmilk each time....I dunno if that will work

My understanding is that whole milk in baby foods is fine for 8 month olds but that formula/breast milk is still essential. Most doctors will tell parents to wait until 12 months to introduce milk to a baby so that we don't stop providing them with formula. Cow's milk is for baby cows and formula/breast milk is for our babies! =)

My daughter's pediatrician said that since she is now 9 months old, we can start transitioning her to whole milk at any time. We're going to start doing that in a week or so.

My doctor told me that I can start giving my son whole milk at his 8 month check up, I chose to wait. He has been on formula since 6 months and took to the bottle no problem, but I had always gone between breast and pumped breast milk since he was born ( so my husband could have bonding time)

My son uses Nestle good start and loves it....I agree with Cathy, start with pumped breast milk, then try formula.

Thanks so much for all the good advice. It is so hard to know what is the right thing to do when everyone tells you something different . :)

My son is 9 months and I give him whole milk. He loves it and he's had no problems with it. My doctor also told me not to do whole milk till12 months, but I still gave it to him. There is milk in baby foods - no difference. As long as your baby doesn't have a reaction, go for it.

My son would not take Enfamil or Similac. He liked Earth's Best and now we use Vermont Organics. Try playing around with different formulas.

instead of formula, why don't you pump and give him breast milk in the bottle? sometimes the baby won't take bottles from mom because he knows you've got bm. maybe have someone else feed him formula? have you tried different brands? if you can pump that's prob going to be easiest for your son to transition to bottles. you can even mix bm and formula (eg. 2oz bm + 3oz formula= 5oz bottle). that might help him become accustomed to the new taste. hope this helps! Good luck!
