RAISINS!!!! and Plum juice if your child doesnt like prune juice...my son had terrible constipation for about 6 months until recently, I started giving him rasins and grapes for snacks and it works!!! Just make sure you brush your childs teeth after the raisins! Hope that works:)

Miralax is an over the counter stool softener with no side effects. My daughter is 5 and has been on it since before she was 2. I would also suggest going to a gastroenterologist to check the digestive system and make sure there are no other problems.

My little boy (21 months now) has been having problems since last september. In december the doctors put him on 'Movicol' which has worked a treat - he is no longer distressed while pooing (he used to sit and shake and scream). We have been told to keep him on this until this september and then slowly wean him off it, hoping that his language will have progressed to the point that he can explain what is wrong.

As far as mineral oil is concerned it will make her stomach hurt a little and she might be grumpy while taking it, but it will help. As a child I had to take mineral oil for my IBS. It is easier to control with diet when you are older, but the oil will help. I would suggest only giving her a little every 2-3 days. Everyday can cause diareaha.

Now the first thing I thought was MAYBE she might be gluten intolerant, alot of the time it can cause constipation, my neices and nephews have it . However with my cousins son he has dairy and gluten intolerances and has the opposite effect. It could be due to diet but I think you should go back to the doctor and demand more attention. Juice could help, milk def helps with moving those bowels. Prunes definitely and licorice. Try anything natural if possible :) Good luck. I know from experience how hard it is .

Haha! My 20 month old poops an average of 2-3 times a day so a banana a day helps....LOL!

I'm with ya 100% on the bananas...my daughter adores them but we have to withhold them unless she's pooping more than usual cause they bung her up something fierce!

Well first thing is to find out what is causing the constipation. My daughter has this problem but we discovered she can't eat rice or bannanas. They constipate her to the point that it hurts so bad to go she holds it. Then because she held it it hurts worse...you get the cycle. Our doctor told us to use Metamucil however I do not recommend it, my neice started that when she was 2 and is now 5 and still uses it everyday just to be able to go.
My suggestion is three things...
1.A ton of water...
2.Find a powdered form of Probiotics and give double the amount until she poops then give it everyday at the normal rate. It is extremely healthy, natural and very good for the intestinal flora that lives in her belly. Put it in her orange juice in the morning or any cold drink.
3. To help the poop slide down her colon easier, give a few teaspoons of olive oil or avocado oil. I put it in her milk or orange juice. It coats the lining and helps to poop easier. Allot more natural and safer than a suppository.
It should take about 12 to 24 hours to work but it works everytime. Also I wouldn't suggest apple juice...apple can be binding. Remember the BRAT diet when you have a stomach bug bananna rice apple toast. That is to bind up diarreha so be careful with all 4 items when she is constipated. I hope this helps I know and understand how hard it is to see a little on in pain.

All I can say is my daughter has that problem too and apple juice and orange juice work real well. I think the more milk I give her makes her more constipated. But I do give her what she needs daily but not to much

with my daughter, we would dilute her juice and give her more water. she drank prune juice too.

Ummm.....sounds to me like you need to go back to the doctor and explain that it's been going on for an extended period of time! There MAY be another problem?

Prune Juice and straight. Also if she is still taking a bottle try adding some Karo Syrup to it, it helped my little guy when he was younger,
