I have potty trained three kids so far one boy and two girls... made the mistake with my first and let my husband's family pressure me into starting it too early and she was so confused that it took her until she was almost 4 to get it... I talked to my peditrician on my second and third and was given the same advice for both of them.... don't start until they are at least 2 to 2 1/2 this way they will have a really good handle on the concept and will less likely be confused. Don't buy the pull ups use regular underwear with the rubber pants, pull ups are just big girl or boy diapers. you want to set a timer once you start the training to take them every half hour to the potty and implement a reward system in place when they do use it. It is helpful to get just a plain potty chair so that they don't think it is a toy. Stick with it and don't deviate from the routine and your child should have it down in no time. Most important part of the entire process is the sticking with it, if you don't your child will just be confused and it will take much longer to get them trained... understand that accidents will happen, be loving not harsh, some parents get over upset when their child has one and will discipline the child when non is really needed... for long trips I suggest the pull up option just in case and also for bedtime until they learn not to wet the bed... most children though that are potty trained correctly do not wet the bed and one of the first signs actually of when to start potty training is when they wake up on a consistant basis with at dry diaper after sleeping all night long... hope these tips help......
