How much spit up is normal?

My 4 month old takes 6 ounces every 4-5 hours but spits up a lot after each feeding. Is this normal? If I give him fewer ounces, he cries because he's still hungry.

Here's the thing. My daughter was spitting up a lot and she would scream before each spit up. She would spit up like...an hour after she was fed. The doctor said that she's experiencing acid reflux so we now have to give her baby zantac twice daily...(she loves that...let me tell ya!) Anyway, that really seemed to helpl. So, if you baby is crying before spitting up and for a while after you've fed him you might want to talk to your doc about it.

have you tried winding him half way thru.. sometimes if baby takes too much at one time and is full of wind they tend to spit up more.. if you already do that then hopefully it will get better soon.. best wishes xx

My little guy spits up a crazy amount all the time. It's getting better but slowly! We tried everything from burping him after each ounce, giving him less, sitting him up after feedings, blah blah blah...I was told by my Dr that as long as he doesn't loose weight (he's 24pounds at 4 months old) he's fine. I was also told that the spitting up peaks at 4 months and then starts to ease off. Kai is on Nestle Good Start with Omega 3&6 the tinned concentrated stuff.

well i tried nestle good start and enfamil a+ and everything some of them he threw up and some just dont fill him up... so what i did was tried the regular similac advance in the cans that are concentrated that u add half water too and half concentrate. and he seems to love that more than powder. Im not going to tell you tho what formula to put your baby on but i would explore my options... another thing is that the cheaper formulas from parents choice and brands like that are also just as good as the expensive brands.

hope I was of help to you

Hi Lana, thanks for the response.  We tried a bunch of different formula before sticking with this one (Similac Isomil Advance).  He was doing fine with it up until 3 weeks ago, when he got a pretty bad cold and ever since he's been spitting up about 2-3 ounces.  Do you think we should try a new formula?

my 4 month old spits up alot of his formula too and i was told i was feeding him too much by the nurses at the hospital and my doctor told me that some babies spit up alot of it because they cant handle the kind of formula that you are giving him so I changed the kind of formula and he seems to be keeping it down now

I hope this helps
