Low Iron?

any one else have a baby with low iron and have to take iron supplements? at my sons 9 month appt the doc said his iron is low. I dont understand why since im breastfeeding and i read that breastfed babies rarely have low iron. anyone else in this situation?

Yes - I was advised to give my daughter an iron supplement. She is also very low on the charts for her weight (I saw your post regarding your child being in the 10th percentile). Was your baby born early? Did he have a low birth weight? Were you anemic during your pregnancy? Ask his doctor what factors may have contributed to his low iron level. From what I understand - the iron from breast milk is absorbed better than iron from formulas. But prematurity and low birth weight could be factors in your child not having normal iron stores at birth. Again, ask his doctor. You may find (as I have already) that his weight will increase once his iron level is better!
