My DD nurses and I think really likes it, the problem is that is all she wants to do. Her pediatrician said that by 6 mths I should be feeding her solids 2 times a day. I pump in the morning and give her cereal with my milk in it and she will eat that most of the time. The problem is she won't eat anything else or will only eat a very little bit. She will shut her little lips soooo tight after maybe 2 spoon fulls and so i'll stop feeding her because I assume she just isn't hungry but then she wants to nurse. I don't know what to do, my boys loved solid food ! I have tried all of the foods babies usually like and occasionally she will eat pretty well but most days she just won't. Does anyone have any advice ? She is very healthy and happy and developing perfectly so I'm to worried yet I was just wondering if anyone has ever had this issue.

You should try to nurse her until she is completely satisfied before feeding her solids.  Remember that introducing solids at six months is not about nutrition it's about just that INTRODUCING.  They do not need solids for nutrition until they are between 8 and 9 months old.  Don't push it or she will really hate solids.

Cynthia, the colour changing spoons are great, those are the one that I switched to that he loves. The rubber ends feel good on his gums

I tried again at supper time, but this time I didn't nurse him before and changed the spoon from a plastic one to a metal one with rubber (he loved the spoon as it felt good on his gums), he seemed to do much better.

I would never force him to eat, and kept a very positive attitude and showed him lots of love and encouragement.

I guess all it takes is patience and eventually he will get there

***Laura*** just hang in there, I think its just a matter of trial and error. Good luck at your Dr. Appointment

Check the runniness of the mix. the runnier the better to start as it will seem more like breastmilk and less like something new. stick with mixing with breastmilk. The temperature is also key. My first son would lock up his lips if it was too cold.

I just started my second son a few days ago on solids. He is also intolerant of it being too thick and will NOT eat more if it gets cold during eating. I put the small bowl into another bowl filled with hot water. it seems to keep it warm throughout his meal. if it is too warm at the bottom then I simply blow on it to cool it off. If it is too hot it will seem like you have just fed them the worst tasting thing and they will be cringing (learned that one the hard way) and then trying to chew or spit it out. the two things you can do to check the temperature is touch it to your lip. it should feel the same temperature, not a whole lot hotter, defineitely not cooler. the other option is the colour changing spoons put out by gerber. it only works if it is too hot. Good luck.

Let me just warn you not to get too frustrated with him or try forcing him because I did that with my first and he is now almost 5 and I still have feeding issues with him. what I am doing is just trying, that is all you can do. I am just hoping she'll just one day start liking it. I'll keep offering, i try to do it when I know she should be hungry but she just wants to nurse. My DD has her 6mth appt this week and I am going to talk to him about it. As long as he is nursing fine and growing and doing well I wouldn't let myself get too worried about it yet. I keep telling her she can't live on breastmilk alone !! So I don't know just try not to get too frustrated, that is what I am doing. I just offer it and if she doesn't eat it I'm not going to force her. I'll let you know what my doc says.

You are not alone! I am having problems with my son as well. I also posted the same question. I am soo stuck, I don't know what to do either. I have done everything from adding breast milk, then water, and playing around with the thickness. I started him with rice, then went to barley hoping he would like this one better, but he hates it too!

I am soo worried as well that it almost brings me to tears.
