My son has been sick with fever/cold. Almost 4 days and still refuses to eat. Any suggestions?

He might have a bite or two here and there, but I am concerned because he's eaten very little in going on 4 days now. He had a fever and a barking cough the first 2 days and lost a lot of sleep because he kept waking up. Since he's sick, I let him cuddle w/ me and watch TV until he went back to sleep (around midnight 12am). I only did this the first 2 nights because I didn't want it to become habit. But, he was still waking up in the morning at his normal time, (around 5:30-6:00am) and his naps were shorter than usual. By the 3rd day he had broken his fever (but would still get the chills) and became congested w/ runny, crusty nose and still coughing - but with less of a barking sound. He's had plenty of liquids, and I know that the infection just needs to run its course, but I'm concerned that he still has no appetite. I have offered everything I could think of (even sweets) and he will take a nibble or two, then push it away. Even tried offering chicken noodle soup broth in a sippy cup, and still no luck. If he doesn't eat anything today (which will be 4 days without eating) then I'm going to call his doctor tomorrow morning. If anyone has had a similar experience with their toddler, please share your story.

If he is still coughing bad, vicks vapor rub on the feet then put socks on. it works great for my boys. Hope this helps for now or in the future. God Bless!

When jy son was sick, he wouldnr eat for about 4 days, the dr said as long as hid fever had went away and he was getting plenty of fluids, when they are ready to eat they will. Slowly but surely he got his appetite back, but while he was sick, i ler him drink plenty of pedialyte, grape, he loved that, even still, every child is different, if it makes you comfortable, still call the dr and see what they say.

Awww poor little guy. Poor Mommy too!

My son had a similar cold near the beginning of January and he too had a huge loss in appetite. I was not too concerned because he was still drinking LOTS of juice and water. He was about another week before he got back up to his regular appetite.

Never hurts to call the doctor.

I hope he gets better soon!

Best thing is to go see your doc. to have your little one checked out. A barking cough could be the croup. Don't worry about the eating at all. Just as long as he is drinking milk, fluids. Try pedialite or popsicles. My daughter had a terrible cold about a month ago and would NOT eat anything for about 5 days. I was concerned but, they will eat when they feel better. My doc. said it was fine. Get better!

I agree with Jill..the barking could be indicative of the croup and hopefully you have been able to get him to the doctor. I hope all is better today.

P.S. Right in the middle of the cold we both had a couple days where our stomachs were upset.....my daughter even spent 12 hours thru night puking! Hopefully ur son doesn't experience that but maybe that's why he's not eating? Maybe his lil' tummy is upset?

My daughter and I both just got over the same thing.......she didn't eat at all for 3-4 days and then it took her another few days to get her appetite back to normal! I know it's tough but as long as he's getting fluids I don't think you have anything to worry about! My daughter is usually a good lil' eater so I was also concerned! That being said, it wouldn't hurt to call the doctor?!
