We were just at the pediatrician for my baby's 6 month check up. She said that I could start giving her water and have her use a sippy cup. She loves water wit her meals! Has anyone started using a sippy cup? Any recommendations? I have also read sippy cups do not assist with speech development.

I bought the Nuby sippy cups for Shelby, the nipple spouts are soft and made out of silicone. I bought these because when she's eating solids, she was having trouble grasping the bottle. She loves the sippy cups. I do let her drink like a grown up every now and then, just to give her practice. I read that if you don't start these types of things now and wait until they are a year, then they will be resistant to the change.

Hi Allison I have started the sippy cup a few weeks ago, I have two diffrent kinds one is by Playtex and the other by Munchkin. He likes the Munchkin one because it's a little softer like the nipples on a bottle. The Playtex are hard plastic and he has to suck a little harder to get the water/juice out. But I was reading somewhere that it's good to try out a couple of cups to help strenghthen and stimulate the muscles in and around the mouth.

I have a sippy cup made by Born Free. She drinks water and juice once in a while but mostly formula out of it all on her own. Easy grasp handles and rubbery she so can chew on it!

I just bought a couple sippy cups as well. So far his favorite is one for 6+ months by Nuk. The sippy part is really rubbery and he loves to chew on it!

I bought a sippy cup that uses the nipples for our bottles. It's made by Nuby. We've been using this for only water, we haven't started juice. He loves it!
