Slow weight gain...

Lucas just had his four month doctors appointment, and the doctor was a little bit concerned that his weight gain had slowed considerably. He was born at 10lbs, but dropped to 9lbs 3oz before we left the hospital, and now he weighs 13lbs 4oz. He was between the 75th and 95th percentile and now he's in the 25th percentile. I was exclusively breastfeeding, until today when we started him on Rice Cereal as per the doctors instructions. He's alert, happy, and developing well. But I'm a first time Mom...so there is always lots of questions, and of course worry.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with slowed weight gain?

Oh another thing to consider is developmental milestones. Is your baby doing what they "should" be doing at this age? Mine laughs, squeals, rolls tummy to back, etc. So that makes me feel a little more reassured.

My little Chloe was born on Sept. 10th. She weighed 7lbs 7oz. She only weighed 10lbs 2oz at her 4 month check-up. I am breastfeeding exclusively but seem to have a good supply. She is only in the 2nd percentile. My doctor said that you can't really use the birth weight as a starting point because they have a lot of fluids at birth. He told me not to worry, that she just petite and that somebody has to be in the 2nd percentile. Still makes we worry though...

my son is 4 1/2 months old and he was 8lb 130z born and i was breastfeeding and he went down to 7lb 14oz. he was on the 75th percentile when born is now 13lb 13oz and the is on the 9th percentile.

my sons got slow weight gain too! dont worry its normal! just means there gona have a growth spirt soon :) x

Hi Alicia, I did when Riley was 0 - 6 weeks. I have low supply and we put Riley on formula as a top up. Now he is 4 months and is on more and more formula which does not help my supply. Once we put him on Formula he gained weight in leaps and bounds. Riley was 5 lb 13 oz at birth so very small. Riley does not like rice cereal on its own so I mix pumpkin in and he took really well this morning. Good luck
