I was wondering at what age you should stop sterilizing bottles and boiling water for your baby. Also if you have stopped sterilizing bottles then how do you clean them.

We hand wash all of our son's dishware with Palmolive's Pure + Clear dish soap it's mild soap with a mild scent and rinses easily. We have always filtered our tap water with the PUR system. As soon as my son started putting everything in his mouth (about 4months old) I stopped sterilizing his bottles because what's the point. I think at this point washing our hands before preparing their food is the only important step we should be taking.

I stopped sterilizing at around 2 months, and just use tap water for his bottles. They need some bacteria, build up their immune system...And think of all the things you little guy puts in his mouth??? I just wash the bottles by hand with hot water. My son hasn't been sick yet and he's almost 9 months...

I did the same as Jenifer. I never really "sterilized" them. I would wash them by hand every night and rinse them in really hot water. Then I put them in the dishwasher once a week, that is a pretty good sanitizer.

I've never used boiling water for washing, and only sterilize bottles in the mircowave once every week or two. The bottles usually get hand washed, but sometimes go through the dishwasher. I've been doing it this way from the start.

I no longer sterilize my daughters bottles, I just put em in the dishwasher. And I use water from the tap for her bottles. I dont know if that is what I should be doing, but her Dr said I only needed to boil the water for the first two months. I did it until about 7 months.

Hi Jodi-Rae,

When my little guy was first born I washed everything by hand and then sterilized in the microwave.

He's now crawling and rolling everywhere and sticking EVERYTHING in his mouth! So now I just put them in the dishwasher with all the dishes. I got some baskets at my baby shower and just put the parts in them.

Hope this helps. Just do what you feel is right for your little one.
