How is everyone else getting thir babies to sleep? Our baby girl used to fall asleep whilst she was being burped but as she has become more alert and has more awake time we are trying to get her to settle without being fed everytime or having to be rocked to sleep. God I hate listening to her cry and not doing anything though.

We were having the problem of getting our son to go back to sleep. We started very early trying to get him to sleep through the night. The first night we brought him home from the hospital he cried all night. We thought that he was sick after he had done this for about 3 nights, so we took him to the dr. The dr informed us that he was indeed not sick, so he told us to let him cry it out. It was very hard for us to do. We did do it though, because we knew that we would never get any sleep if we didn't. After doing that for a couple of nights he eventually went to sleep on his own every night. Now that he is a little older and more alert he will stay up for about an hour at every feeding and then when he is ready to go to sleep he will get fussy. We lay him down in his bed and he falls asleep on his own. This is very different, because with our first child we actually had to sit and rock her for hours before she would go to sleep.

They are only babies once and I plan on babying them while I can I have a 19 mo and 3 mo old. It does get stressful at times but I want my children to look back or hopefully remember that Me or my hubby where always there when they were crying, laughing, hungry, or sleepy. the world is so hard I want mine to have a wonderful childhood knowing that mommy and daddy made them thier 1st priority

How old is your baby because I thought you were not supposed to use the cry it out method until they are at least three months. I personally have never used that method I prefer a quieter way.

I rock my baby to sleep. There is no such thing as spoiling an infant. Try the self settling during the day. Let her cry a little bit at a time then pick her up and rock her. There is no reason to let her cry at night. babycenter.com and Dr. Sears has a lot of information on sleep patterns and the cry it out method.
