Does your newborn give you problems going back to sleep?

My son is 2 weeks old and he has been staying up almost all night with little sleep since he was born. I took him to the dr. because naturally I thought that he was sick. The doctor told me to just let him cry that he wanted to be held that he wasn't sick. Now he is doing better about sleeping. How much does a newborn usually sleep? What is your baby's sleeping pattern?

I wouldnt suggest putting your baby to sleep on his stomach at night time. This increases your babies risk of SIDS greatly. It is natural for babies to wake every 2 hours to sleep. Also a newborn should never be left to cry it out. Babies dont cry just to cry, they cry because they need something. Babe may be lonley and want to be held, wet and need a bum change, insecure and need to be swaddled etc. Never ever let your baby cry at such a young age, it will break the bond and your baby will learn she/he cant trust you when babe needs you.

as for my babe, until he was 4-6 weeks he woke up every 2 hours to nurse. Now at 9 weeks he wakes up every 4-6 hours to eat. He gets a solid stretch from Midnight until anywhere from 4-6am sometimes longer. No sleep is just a part of being a new mama :)

my daughter is a month and two weeks, when she was first came home she was sleeping a lot up until she was 3 weeks, after that she would wake up 3 times to eat and because she didnt want to sleep by herself.i had to try to adjust with her sleeping patterns by feeding her until she was full and making sure that her diaper was dry in order for her to sleep longer.now she sleeps and would wake up once or twice to eat.

my daughter is 5 1/2weeks but she has been a pretty good sleeper she takes about 4 naps a day and at night is sleeping between 6-8hrs a night. but my oldest daughter never slept she was up all night and only slept when being held for a long time. one thing i learned is watch your babies eyes before you put them down if they are moving wait a while they are in the rappid eye movment sleep and can easily be waken. and dispite what your docotor might say some babies are just not comfortable on there backs our newest baby screamed for 2hours and we put her on her tummy and she fell right to sleep it cant hurt to try differnt things with him. i hope he is sleeping better now i know it can be stressful

My daughter is a month old and she gets up 2 times in the middle of the night most nights. This is normal with breast fed babies. It just takes new borns a while to get on any type of a schedule. My daugther was the same way at 2 weeks.
