Thanks - I will keep it in mind to keep it simple and have fun. Think the biggest change I will have is that I have a step daughter that is 5 and has never used sign so I will be teaching her when we have her (ever other weekend) as well.

Since you dont have your baby yet, dont freak! Babies dont usually start signing until they're 6 months, and that seems to be the earliest! You have plenty of time. The key is to find signs that are relevant. Milk, change and bath are good ones for example. Babies pick up on those because they happen often in the day/week. If you have a dog/cat, learn those signs because babies are naturally drawn to animals! Relax and have fun with it, you'll be surprised what that little babe will pick up!

How funny, I know a lot of people from that area, mostly people who moved there. I'm originally from Michigan's upper peninsula; I've been to Duluth a few times. My brother is actually in Las Vegas (airforce :) _)

Don't be discouraged. Even if you don't find a group immediately, you can start signing with your child on your own, too. That's how I got started. Just do a little research and find something that is right for you. The great thing about signing with your baby is that neither one of you need prior experience. You can learn together, whether you learn ASL signs, or just create your own signs for things...it's about communicating with your baby. Seriously, check out Baby Signs(R), even if you can't find a class, you can order products that you can use at home (I can get you a discount :)_)

Thank you - The down fall is there is no instructors in my area nor where I will be moving. I live near Duluth,MN until August. Then will be moving to Henderson,NV as of this Septmber. I am hoping to find moms in Henderson/Las Vegas that use sign with their little ones. I know some basic signs but would like to meet with other moms and get into a group.

I am so excited that you have decided to teach your baby to sign! It is such an amazing thing and so beneficial for your child. My advise to get started would be to visit www.babysigns.com They are the original baby signs program. Not only do they have great research posted on their website, but they have certified instructors all over the country that run parent workshops and play classes (even some free demonstration classes); they also sell a variety of products.



Okay, I'm a little biased, as I am one of the Instructors; located in Michigan; BUT I have used other products and programs as well and I have to say that the Baby Signs(R) program is really good! Don't take my word for it though....go see for yourself.
