What I do is I do a bulk cook of meals that I can use often. The main ones that I do a bulk cook of is a chicken curry, bolognese sauce and a few other useful ones as well. We eat what we want then the rest gets portioned off and frozen.
The bolognese sauce then come out as spaghetti bolognese, cottage pie, lasagna etc..
Also see which brands you're worth getting and which one's you're not. I aim to get the middle range of products, rather than the cheapest or most expensive brands. Other things I look out for are the 'buy one get one free', or when things are half/third off etc., especially on things that I know that my girls and I will eat.

When I was thrown into the single parent area, I would large grocery shop once a month on the off bill paying week. Most all of my bills were due the first of the month so the middle of the month, would be when I large shopped. The rest of the month, I would buy what was needed only, (milk, bread).
My kids knew that we would go to the store the weekend nearest the 15th. They would help me by writing down what we were out of (as we ran out) on one list and what they wanted on another. If I was at the store and decided that grocery trip we could afford Oreo's instead of the store brand then I bought them.

I can't wait to jump back into how I used to run my home.. we are temporarily in transition. I made menus and let my son have some ideas on their (we even had a cooking night together).. who says that not having alot of money makes your home boring? I also did the coupon clipping (only what you need.. just because you have a coupon does not mean you have to buy it).. planning ahead activities and what I saved in coupons I put in a jar and saved throughout the year.. you would be surprised how that adds up. :) The hardest part is not succumbing to the pressure to keep up with others (I did once and it nearly sank my ship). When I budget I always round up on expenses and down on income that way I find more wiggle room at the end of the month. There are lots of free activities. I cut out cable as it was not a big thing I needed and I used my money as going to a movie once a month with my son was more important to me. I made big meals ahead of time and utilized freezing and it helped alot. You have to be willing to sacrifice the now for later. Its not easy and I fail at times (but suffer for it)... it takes more time saving and thinking ahead. For myself.. I buy my clothes out of season on clearance and store them for the next season. Who cares if its not in the NOW.. if you like it and it feels good on you.. then great! Menus have saved me alot on groceries!!! I really like budgeting (nerdy I know).. but its cool to see where your money goes and how you can stretch it.

I keep a spreadsheet for my budget - and every time I spend on something I track it. The spreadsheet tells me exactly how much money I can spend on each category - each bill - spending - car gas - and anything miscellaneous. I track it all individually with totals at the bottom so I see exactly what is going out and what is left.
This only works if you know what your income is for the month.
It's a lot easier than it looks. If you message me your email I can send the spreadsheet to you - and all you have to do is fill it in with your amounts - then update for each month and as you spend.

keep your costs low for what u paying in bills. unless it is a neccasisty of life u don't need it until there is more money. buying food in bulk and freezing as much as possible, planning out your meals for the week and even pre-cooking and freezing some meals so during the week if you are really busy u can just reheat and go. Good luck! it sucks being broke but it is not impossible to live u just have to be more creative to get by

i too am on a tight budget and it takes great discipline. but it can be done with certain sacrifices made. its amazing how the little sacrifices seriously add up, e.g. not buying a coffee at your local coffee shop, rather having one at home or taking your lunch to work. you can try googling money saving tips or you can also check out http://www.singlemothersfinancialhelp.co... for money saving tips and budgeting advice.

My hubby laughed at me - but I do up a rough menu plan for the weeks meals! And check your cupboard before you go grocery shopping so you don't double up on things you already have.
I buy meat that is a few days from expiry and freeze it.
Savoury muffins for the kids lunches - work brilliantly too
look up budget recepies online and you'll get some awesome ideas!
