I saw something that broke my heart and brought me to tears, I am a ridiculosly Community Service freak, everytime I see someone asking for help, I do help them, even if is with loose change or Used clothes..I saw a grwon man standing on a light on this +20 weather, with a sign that said: Please help, I am out of work and I am doing this for my son, He was white on race but He was read of cold, his head was looking down, and even I could tell his shame, it takes a lot for a man to do something that puts his pride down, and he was well dressed..I wanted to help him so bad, and when I stop on the ATM to get him a $20, I didnt have enough so I passed right by him again, and I cried my way home, lol it just hit me, that America is broke right now, every christmas has gotten worse and worse..So I am just curious: Is your Household really broke right now? Or you think you could just been better?

Even in Australia we're broke. Im a single parent and im so broke right now i've just borrowed more money off my mum to pay my electricity bill (i now owe her $AUSD500) worst of all come July I'm going to have to come up with over $1500 to pay another bond because the owners want to move back into the unit we're living in to fix it up I can't transfer my current bond because that's in, you guessed it, my mother's name because i couldn't afford bond. moving back home isn't an option for me as my mum's house and dad's houses are too small to take in me and my son :( i'm thinking i may not study mid next year and instead go into full time work, i don't want to put my son in childcare 5 days a week but the way things are looking i may not have a choice

I work in community service, we have helped over 100 people with holiday presents and food this year. We usually have between 3 and 5 requests. The increase in the amount of requests this year shows how our community is struggling. We have also had more donations than ever before. It's wonderful how people are coming together to help each other. As for the man on the street there are plenty of resources to keep people from begging on the corners. All they have to do is ask for help. A good place to start is by dialing 211. 24 hours a day they can give resources no matter what you need.

I just became a single mom a few months ago of 3 kids (the youngest just 8 weeks, the oldest 5 years) and since I had been a stay at home mom my income had been zero so broke is an understatement. Luckily my friends and family turned this christmas from the worst (i expected) to the best one. I think many are broke, but those that were broke before are far worse off now. Then there are the scumbags that are using the situation to their advantage. All in all, I think many are down financially, but money is not all that matters...if you have close family and friends, you are already rich.

Broke is my life story at this point. Im very happy that my children didnt have any field trips yet or they would not have been able to go...my oldest is in Karate via her school's after school program. I dont have to pay for her to take the lessons but everything that goes along with it costs money..tournaments etc...I feel so bad that she cannot partcipate in the those aspects..

Yes I am broke. I don't even have $100 to my name right now and won't get anymore money until the end of January when my next set of school loans come. I'm still trying to figure out how I am going to manage until them.

i am broke beyond reason. my boyfriend and little girls father had taken all my savings and used it on drugs. thankfully i have a decent job, but i had to get a car since it's winter. i found it unacceptable to not have one for my daughters sake. making it barely from paycheck to paycheck sucks sometimes. but as long as i am able to stay on top of the bills and make my little girl happy, it's the best i could ask for right now.

sounds like even thou we are all broke we still have good spirits and the materialistic things arent that big of a deal. We have healthy kids and homes and that to me is enough to have a good christmas!

I am completely broke this year. I'm raising 2 girls on my own with no help, had to move out a family home that was foreclosed on to move into a 1 bedroom apartment efficiency, almost lost my job, etc, etc. If I hadn't put the girls' Christmas gifts on lay-away, I don't know how I would have managed. I wish it could be better, but I have to count my blessings. My girls are healthy, we have a roof over our heads, food in the fridge and a wonderful family support system to spend the holidays with.

Beyond broke, to the point where I have taken a loan out from my parents.
That being said, my son and I have everything we need. So we have asked our friends and family this year that instead of buying us presents, to please take the money and donate it to a food bank.

yes my household is really broke, I know this year sucks Im still keeping my spirits up. Im want my son to grow up knowing that the holidays are about spending time with people you love and that love you and not so much about presents.
