I am in need of a babysitter and i do not know where to start. I have always relied on my mom to do it and i cant do that anymore nor is it really fair to her. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I have a 18 month old little boy and he is all boy and full of energy.

I have to agree with all the posts. I'm a single mom of an 8 yr old and live 350 miles away from my family...so family support doesn't exist. I found a wonderful, long-term babysitter on craigslist.com...but as Emily noted you have to be careful and really check the person out before trusting them. I've also asked a few of the girls at my son's daycare to watch him for me from time to time. Most of them are pretty open to it just to make a few extra bucks. The other option is to see if there are any high school kids around looking for babysitting jobs. One website that you can check out is sitters.com.

Try Craigslist.com. Of course because it's an internet site you will have to be careful. Always visit someone's home and interview before leaving your child with someone. References are also recommended. I have found 2 wonderful, long-time babysitters (and 2 bffs for my daughter!) via Craigslist.

You can check out local collages with early childcare programs, you may be able to find students who are looking to get a little experience outside the classroom and make a couple extra bucks. Or your local highschool. If you are looking for daycare, most comunities offer a referal program, try looking in you comunity centre.

If you boy goes to childcare maybe ask one of the teaches. I used to work in childcare and got asked a few times. You will always find that they will need the extra money as childcare wages are not very good. Also it will be someone that your son is familar with, and they are qualified and trained to care for children.
