hi all, im currently 30 weeks pregnant and am planing on breastfeeding and ive herd that breast feeding can reduce ur chances of getting pregnant again straight away but id really like to take extra precautions just in case. i was on the pill for most of my teenage years and that always worked without a problem but apparently not all birth controll pills are safe while pregnant, i tried the needle a few times when i was younger but it made my periods really heavy and spiratic and the bar thing in your arm made me bleed for 2 1/2 months straight, non stop!!! so if anyone has any suggestions for other types birth controll while breastfeeding id really appreciate your help!!

There is a pill called the mini pill it is safe for breastfeeding mothers, it did not work for me it kept dropping my supply but there is many mini pills to try. don't give up and if your supply tanks you can take mothers milk tea, fenugreek tabs and blessed thistle after six weeks.

Im so glad you are asking about this BEFORE that baby! I made the mistake of trusting my doctor to know that I was breastfeeding (but she was 9 months pregnant at the time of my 6 week check up). She put me back on the pill and I lost all my milk. I am currently on mirena. Its good for 5 years, I have no period whatsoever, and I dont have to remember to take anything or go out of my way for shots, refills, ect. You should check it out because Im pretty sure you can breast feed with it. I hope I could help!

the normal pill you CANNOT take, it reduces your milk supply in little to no time at all. the depo made me put on a lottt of weight when i first had my daughter. but if you tell your gyno you are BFing they will fill you in on everything that is safe for you to take.

I breastfed for nine months, and the only birth control that I could use that seemed right was the depo shot. At first my periods were awful, but then they vanished completely.

You can't use the pill while you breastfeed. And that pretty much leaves the depo shot and an IUD, the IUD will prevent pregnancy for between 5 and 10 years.
