my birthday is december 20th and my mom ALWAYS made sure that we had a birthday and a christmas...they were seperate celebrations and everything....it is a good idea to make it a big deal that your baby's birthday be a big deal to them....i have a friend who has a birthday on the 21st and they celebrated her birthday in october so it wouldn't be near the holiday....you need to make sure that your baby has a seperate birthday and christmas. everyone else does.

My son is Jan 9th, I always make sure to make a big deal about his birthday and save the "best" present for his birthday. His father is Dec 22 and is still bitter about all the "combined" presents.

My daughter is also born right near Christmas (December 6th). She will also be a ear old. I am not too worried about any of that, because she is only a year and she will never remember it. A gift is a gift. If you get more than one thing, then return it and get something else.

I do agree with everyone below with the suggestion of just celebrating his birthday first, and THEN put out the Christmas decorations. I'm sure you want him to feel just as important as the holiday seasons but he IS only one right now so he isn't going to know any different. I would still celebrate them separately though, him first, then Christmas.

You have so many other birthdays in the future with plenty of time to make mistakes and learn how to do it better next time, and you won't have anything to worry about because by the time he actually will remember anything, you'll be a pro at it!

My son's birthday is 15 days before christmas and we celebrate each separately. I don't want him to feel cheated because his birthday is so close to christmas. My brother's birthday is the day after my son's and growing up he never had a real birthday party. My parents always combined his party with a christmas party. He always felt like he was cheated because he never had his own day.

Birthday is birthday! Christmas is christmas. Dont set christmas decorations up untill after his birthday, Have rituals for each occasion such as carols on christmas eve and special birthday breakfasts. In years to come these become wonderful memories.

You could celebrate her birthday early. My cousin's birthday is 2 days before Christmas. When he was little we always celebrated his birthday at Thanksgiving. My niece will be one one week before Christmas and we are going to celebrate her birthday at Thanksgiving as well.

Then again my sister's birthday is on Dec. 6th. We always celebrated her birthday on her birthday but didn't get out any Christmas decorations until after her birthday to acknowledge that they were separate.
