I've sat down with my son and talked with him everyday since even before he could talk back. As he grew he would tell me about his day, how he felt and what bothered him. He is eighteen now and we still have those conversations. We do not limit what we talk about, we talk about everything. Just remember, it is important to be completely honest with your children. They will respect you more and like one of the other parent's replied...Do not yell at them...they respond better when you talk to them the way you want to be talked to

I talk and listen to what they have to say. If the subject is difficult or can be used as a teaching lesson for all three of us I make it age appropriate #1 and then we do a simple Q&A. I for one do not want outsiders answering questions that may lead to other questions (my son will be 11 hint hint, lol) but at the same time I had to learn to listen to what they already have learned or heard and tell them the best explanation I could think of and include example of my own experiences.

No way, like they say- children are meant to be seen, not heard!

I joke obviously. C'mon.

It is very important to talk to your kids. Listening to them especially can help pinpoint why a kid could be acting the way that they are sometimes. Kids don't respond to being yelled at.
