How do I get my 20month old to stop hitting his sister??

My son Layton keeps hitting his 2yr old sister and I have tried to punish him, sent him to time out pretty much everything i have done to try to make it stop but nothing im doin helps in anyway.. Please give me some suggestions to help him stop the hitting...

If your son is only 20 months, I would just pick him up and move him away, if your Daughter is even slightly in his space it can cause him to hit, or push her away, and may even cause him to get fustrated, he may also be playing or trying to see what her reaction is. Just move him away untill he understands NO, you dont hit. If your Daughter is going up to him, you also need to tell her to leave him alone esp if he has hit her, get the older one to move away. It may be easier to direct a 2 year old then a 20 month old.
