How does child support work? I have been a single mother since my son was born almost 9 months ago and i would just like to know if anybody knows what the father is supposed to be paying for? He does earn more than me and i just feel like he is not paying enough. i have no extra money for myself every month, yet he is going on holidays and dining out every weekend? Am i being selfish? i just feel like he should pay a little more because at the end of the day he only sees my son for a couple hours on the weekend and im the one doing everything and yet i cant even afford to go out for dinner.

wow thanks guys, your so helpful. No i didnt go through court because he has never refused to pay for our son i just feel terrible asking for more because he is being so co-operative, so i rather go without, but its getting to the stage where im starting to feel a little resentment towards him because he can do so much and i cant. I live in South Africa so im not sure if you'll be able to find out Elizabeth but thank you so much for offering anyway. I think ill seek legal advise just to see what is fair for both of us. thanks again guys!

I agree with Sherry. I have been a single mother since my son was born and when his father started to give me child support outside of the court i felt the same way so i went there and got help and it went from him giving me $300 a month to them making him give me $700 not including childcare cost. What state are you in? I could possibly find out what he SHOULD be paying if you dont want to go through court so you can show him.

was there an order by the court or does he just give u money voluntarily? Public aid is all about getting the support that u need to help raise ur kid..I would go talk to them and they will go after him for the amount that is fair to both of you..
