I have a 2 year old and his father left us when he was 4 months old. He has no contact with him and doesn't want contact. is there anyway that I can get him off the birth certificate or maybe get my sons last name changed to mine.

I have just changed my sondlast name to mine but I could only do it because I was the only one on the birth cert. But you should still give it a try. you can change it if the father signs the form aswell saying he giver permission to change the childs last name.

I dont know where you are from, I am from Canada and am having the same problem with my sons. If the dad signed the birth certificate he has to sign saying he allows the name change. If you dont even know where he is you can go to court and ask to have the name changed without his permission. Its really up to the judge. I think its so stupid the way it works. When my boys were born I was stupid and nieve and thought that giving them his last name was a good idea, boy was I wrong. We see him about twice a year and he refuses to let me change the boys last name to mine.

sorry no you cant mess with the birth certificate legally but if its the name you want changing i think you can by deep poll someone i know did this with there kid the 2nd time they got married. heres some info http://www.deedpoll.org.uk/
