me and my kids dad (technically we are married) split a year ago because I wanted to see what else was out there. He was in prison and has since got out and made huge changes for the better in his life. I know want to fix my family and make us whole again. I still love him and have talked to him about how I feel. He says he is not ready for us to try to be together again and he needs time now. Im devistated and a wreck what do I do? Im going to see a counselor on thursday but I just want my family back! what do i do?

Well remember he is still dad and still has responsibilities to his children prison life or not. I concur with the other poster about everything except for this, he still needs to at least financially support the kids and take care of them if it's safe for the kids for him to do so. I'd make it clear his responsibilities with the kids aren't on hold, and don't end regardless of if he wants to stay married or not.

You need to make yourself happy first and put your kids first. You can not force someone to come back to you. He may feel some fear and insecurities himself or he may just need time to figure out what he wants. Prison life is not easy and as much as you want your family together you need to decide if that is truly what you both want and what your kids want. If he states he is not ready than be patient and give him time and space for him to figure it out. First of all heal yourself and make you happy. Counselling is good start and I wish you all the best. The more you smother him and make demands the more he will run so be patient and if it is meant to be it will be. If it is not meanty to be than you will meet the right one one day. Just focus on you and your children and their well being.
