My baby daddy is black, and my daughter inherited his hair type. She is now 2 and a half and I need to start learning how to manage her hair. I want to try box braids or maybe twists, but I don't know how to do it. I can't afford to get it done. I was wondering if anyone has some tips for what I need, and how to do it. and maybe what technique I should start out with? Thanks!

No her dad or his family arent involved. I have to learn to do it myself. I am hispanic, so I am used to doing ethnic hair, and I'm good at cornrows or box braids, but I dont have any experience in hair like hers. Its very different. My sons hair is looser very soft curls so I never had to learn before. Thanks for some of your tips!

My daughter is mixed as well..here's a few pointers! I use Olive Oil spray in her hair..looks shiny and healthy..never dry! as far as braids go..I can't braid to the head..so I do small little pony tails all over..just section off..then braid the pony tail...or sometimes I do two braids per pony tail..at the ends, wrap the hair up in the rubber band so its not dangling out..beads are easy too..at the end of the beads, wrap the hair strand around the last bead and put in the pony tail holder. I hope this helps a little..I know it's hard without a visual!!

I am in the same situation, except my daughter's hair isn't as coarse as her dad's is, but it is extremely curly. I don't take her in to get it done. I just apply a hair lotion to it everyday to keep it soft and comb through it everyday. As for styling it, there isn't a whole lot I can do with it yet. I usually just do ponytails. Just yesterday my mom helped me do a relaxer treatment on her hair and it has made a HUGE difference so far. It turned the really tight curls into waves and it is so much easier to manage.
