what is the appropriate age for a girl to start dating?

My 14 year old daughter feels she has the right to start dating because her friends are doing it. I feel she is to young and not ready for the pitfalls of dating. Also I was 14 once too and I know what boys are really after. I'm already a single mom struggling to make ends meet with out the possibility of a teen pregnancy to add to my worries. We constantly argue over this subject and I think driving a wedge between us, we had a great mother/daughter relationship until puberty set in. I'm looking for sound advice to stop the bickering, find a happy medium and maybe to show my daughter that with maturity waiting won't be such a bad thing.

She runs track but I also feel its the group of girls she associates with. I always told my kids I would never pick and chose their friends so I tried not to but in this case I feel I must. Also my opinon is with birth control information being too accessable she's making some unwise choices. She says she's not ready for sex but peer pressure can have a way of changing that even in the strongest-willed girl not to mention STD's. I think she should wait 2 yrs also be better informed and more mature, but a small part of me doesn't want my little girl to growup just yet...wishful thinking. Thank you Yolanda for your advice

Hi Angela, is yor daughter involved in extra carricular activities? A lot of times it's the lack of things that really interest teens that cause them to become anxious.Try different activities with her you may be surprised with the outcome.You have my best wishes!! A good age for dating is 16yrs on a double date arrangement until 18yrs!!
