First I had him 'try'.I would sit him on potty. Then I would have a timer set and every hour he had to try.(length of time was extended as he went) I did nto ask him,I told him.
I lived in the country so I let him pee on a tree.(his dad showed him)Little boys like playing with their hoses.LOL.
Then inside we gave him targets in the toilet to hit.(tinkle targets or cheerios)

Reward Reward Reward! My son started using the potty just before his second b-day. He is still in diapers but we are getting there slowly. I started by getting him his own potty. We called it the big boy throne! lol i know sounds weird. I would get him naked for his bath and have him sit on it. If he went he would get a big reward. If he stayed on it long enough for me to get his bath ready he would get a small one. It got him use to sitting on it. And the tone of your voice is key. Make happy faces and say encouraging words while he sits. I sing a song. "Big boys go Pee Pee in the potty, Pee Pee in the Potty!" Just like on "Look who's talking" with Kiristie Alley and John Travolta. It works for my son. Each child is different. My son would hide and take his diaper off so I knew he was ready. Try letting him pick his own potty. Let him help carry it in and unpack it. But you can not force it or it will take longer. Having him try when you go is good too. I would sit and he would. Now he tells me when he has to go. Good luck!
