How old is your child? Infant swim resource is amazing! It teaches swim/float for babies starting at 9 months to save themselves if they fall in water. My son started right before he was one, he's almost 4 now and a great swimmer, and has never used floaty's.

is there a pool close to you? i put my daughter in parented swim lessons and it was so much fun for both of us. and my little girl is almost 2 and has no fear at all of the water and swims assisted( mostly because im 2 scared to let her go. most communities also have rec assistant grants to help single parents and low inncome families pay for lessons
